I swapped the factory seat for a Mustang Vintage and a new set of fat grips.

Checked on my weekend paint job.  The black turned out pretty good, but I had a little overspray.  I used the Color-Rite can in the factory red to start touching up the overspray and some old scratches/dings.

I already have a spot I need to sand.  It's drying peeled like there's something under the paint, just like the black section of the same panel.  A lot of sanding and a little cleaning fixed that on the lower part, so I'll have to wait for it to dry and sand the hell out of it.

I'm just hoping the Color-Rite red matches well enough that I don't have to end up painting the whole damn bike.  Anyway, here's the right side panel bolted up prior to touching-up the overspray, just to see how it looks:

I also ordered the little black plastic pop-rivets to replace most of the small screws for the fairing.  The ones on my Bandit used to break almost every time I'd take them off, but they worked great otherwise and are cheap to replace.  I bought a bag of 100 fasteners online.  I'm hoping the black plastic fastener heads look better than the aluminum hex screw heads.

I'm considering getting some white vinyl lettering to put "INTERCEPTOR" near the top of the black part, angled with the division line.  I may just stick with the clean, no-decals (except for the tank) look.  Here's a quick photo-chop, but I would want a more Honda-like font:

I'm too practical a person to spend time and money building a show bike, but methinks a few more touches over the next few weeks, and I could win "Best Honda" or "Best Sportbike" at the local Hooter's Bike Night events this summer.  It's mostly Harleys, so the competition isn't steep at all in the Jap/sportbike categories.  Just an example: a lowered GSXR750 with stock bodywork painted a solid metallic brown color (and no other noticeable mods) took "Best Suzuki" one month last summer.  I'm thinking if I polish up the exposed aluminum bits a little, patch the few little cracks under the front turn signals, throw on a dark smoke windscreen and the rear solo cowl, it should look pretty hot by local standards.  Heck, they might even think the single-sided swingarm is a one-off custom!

Paid $650 for a set of Pirelli tires... pricey but not just any old tire will do for a 27K homologated racer... no
sir... you need one that is the jewel of World Supersport Racing and is homologated for street use... this is
not a DOT race tire... its just cut like one... you really want 5% tread groves because it offers more rubber
on the road...

I tried to paint a fender.  Headscratch I used to be a little better at this. There will be wet sanding tonight, more cleaning and maybe another try....maybe not. Either way, it's all fun.

I totally effed up the paint job.  I had masked off the black I painted on the lower in order to touch-up the factory-red, but when I took the masking tape off, it pulled a nice chunk of the fresh black off with it.  I touched that up a little, but it still looks like ass.  I'm hoping once it's dry, I can salvage it a little with waxing and polishing.  There will be lots of overtime available at work this summer, so I'll probably try to pick up a new set of the side plastic and go with some big sheets of black vinyl for the bottom instead of paint.

Oh, and I changed the oil and took it for a quick spin around the block (sans plastic) to check out the Holeshot pipe!  It doesn't sound much louder or different.  Basically, it sounds like the VFR does when it's pulling hard from low rpms (that V-4 blat-blat-blat!) but it is more apparent at all rpms.  I likey.  Video with audio coming soon.

Today I put 150 miles on it testing the fork I rebuilt yesterday.

Since my bike is so old, I had to get a replacement fork on Ebay. Found a nice one from an 86, so I got it. Cost less than forks by frank or replacement tubes and I got a whole fork, not jst the tubes.

Replaced the seals with fresh, installed Race Tech springs and a Race Tech cartridge emulator kit. What a difference!

My bike is so much more stable it's unbelievable. I can take winding roads at or above posted speed, crosswinds are so much less interesting, etc.

Same deal coupled with a slick spotadded to my low side yesterday. Put on the new tires today, filed some of the scrapped aluminum on the exhaust. Re installed the snapped off frame slider too. Thumbsup

I washed and waxed my FJR today for at least the fifth time in the 3.5 years that I've owned it.  I'm worried that  Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder may be creeping up on me.

Between my schedule, my in-laws impending move and the rain's schedule, this is the first time I've been out to ride since 4/25.  And this trip was only to get my hair cut and get some takeout.

Economic slowdown?  I haven't seen it (thank goodness).  I'm self-employed and as busy as ever. http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Mil-Positive/winking.gif

Getting ready to move so not a lot, however I was chasing down a short on the bike. While doing so, I removed the three Gerbing plugs (it must be spring Smile ) and disconnected the badly mangled poser lights Bigsmile  I need to fully extract them as disconnecting the main plug seemed to resolve the short.
