So did you do that just to get rid of all the extra plumbing on top. It seems you're in there pretty often.

That's for the air induction system. Two of the pasages in the head are completely plugged and it's not doing much of anything else but taking up space.
I'm waiting for the valve shims to finish the valve adjustment so the top of the motor is still open.

Most modern reservoirs are sized so that low brake fluid indicates a need for pads/shoes. The days of topping off low brake fluid as a normal maintenance thing are about over. It's full when pads are new, and "low" when pads are worn, typically
[1]
.
1 - I'm sure there are plenty of makes or models that haven't gotten onboard with that yet, but for the most part, the modern stuff is.
Does that mean that if I compress the caliper when putting in new pads I never have to change fluid???
P.S. almost every auto manufacturer follows the fluid level markings line of thought

Looked @ it. then looked to make sure Battery Tender was still working.
Still love that ole '02 VTR. Was thinking of selling her, but as usual would never get what I have in it + nothing is better than a V-Twin. If I can still ride ( recovering from a cage accident caused by other) left ankle is pretty fused up w/ lots O screws & other metal junk a junk, but I'm still alive so thats a good thing.

Got the valves adjusted on the FJR last night. But stupid me i forgot to put the cam chain tensioner on and when i turned the crank to check the clearance the chain jumped and threw the engine timing off.
Took me a while to get every thing lined up again but all is good now. Lesson learned.

Your a lucky man Thats defiantly an "O Crap" moment. Glad things worked out
Just out of curiosity how many valves were out of range?

Considering i haven't looked at them in over 100,000 miles not as bad as i thought. 2 exhaust were tight and 6 intake were also tight. I only had to drop those 1 shim size and now every thing is in specs.

I added some sidebags today. Bolted some Seahorse SE720 (Pelican 1520 sized) cases to SW-Motech removable racks. Final width is 33" (mirrors are 35") and I can get my 2-man tent (with poles) and 15 degree sleeping bag in one side. Should be able to get most of the rest of my camping gear in the other side.
The plan this spring is to ride out to AR after work on Friday, throw up the tent and wake in the middle of the twisties.

Been an expensive week of winter maintenance on my 950 SM-R. Sent the suspension off for a full rebuild/re-valve ($500 add $200 if springs needed) and just got done ordering $650 in parts (battery, fuel pump, sprockets and chain, high-flow air filter, jets). Had a set of Pirelli Angels mounted ($300) too. A trip to the dealer for a valve check/adjust and water pump seal rebuild is pending. But investing $1500 - $2000 in a bit of mid-life maintenance (44K miles) is a lot cheaper than buying a new bike.
I <3 my KTM. Suits me perfectly...

Ran last week's tank of gas out and put new in. It's February in Michigan and the tank is getting filled every week? :in love: I could get used to this.

Went for a ride. Let 2 pounds of air out of the front tire. Slowed down to let a dozen deer cross in front of me pre-dawn.
