Used some Plexus to clean bugs off the windshield after running a couple of tanks of gas through.
Bakersfield to Highway 58 to Atascadero, 46 to Bitterwater Road (including some Bandit 1200 off road hill climbing- woo hoo!) back to 58 and back home.

did you wire in a relay? i killed a battery by leaving a accessory plugged in...
I wired mine in to an existing switched circuit for exactly that reason. It goes off with the key.

I got around to fixing some of the things on the VFR that the dealership didn't bother to check before they resold it. The wiring connector on the voltage regulator/rectifier was almost completely melted.
I installed a new aftermarket R/R and the VFRness, and spliced the last 3 wires to bypass the melted connector (at least until I can order a new one). I pulled one of the side panels off to touch-up the paint with a can of Color-Rite, and ended up painting the bottom section of each side black. One side keeps peeling as it dries in a few spots - methinks I need to sand and clean it better, as there may still be some residue on there of grease or cleaner. The other side was coming out perfectly smooth, until I decided to pack it in for the night: the spring on the garage door popped and blew out a chunk of plaster from the ceiling, landing the plaster specks in my fresh smooth black paint. Luckily, I have plenty of primer and black paint, so I will be sanding, cleaning, primering and repainting the black parts again tomorrow.
Oh, and I installed the Holeshot slip-on too!
The plan for tomorrow includes painting, oil change, topping off the other fluids, installing a fused distribution block, and once it's completely reassembled she'll get a nice bath and chain lube. Then maybe a short ride, if the rain holds off.

It was the "blessing of the bikes" in Anchorage today. New record high temp today; 70F, old high was 64. And the last of the maintenance parts I was waiting on arrived today, so tonight she got new sprockets, rear bearings and seal collar spacers. The throttle cable replacement can wait 'til a rainy day.

Yesterday, I finished the new and improved wiring harness for my helmet speakers that connect to the GPS and radar detector. Oh and lubed the chain - Teflon every 600 miles.

Guys,
Some of you out there on the left coast and above the border won't want to hear this but.....
I rode the dog sheite out of it ....went about 250 mles , saw a classic cycles show at the Transportation Museum in Spencer North Carolina.....rode all two lane black top and went back home through very unpopulated areas.....took a break at the Eldorado Station......in the outback of Uwharrie National Forest....
Weather was a bit overcast so it was like 68 in the A.M. and about 85 in the afternoon....I noticed that there were approximately 30-40 thousand dealry departed skeeters on my windshield......and its prolly time to get outside and clean her up a bit...what a day.....prolly never broke 80 but what a nice day and the show was really good the folks from the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club were there along with some well done custom bikes and a boat load of trumpets....BMWs of older vintage.....I have been on a year long resto-refreshening on my old 1979GS850GN and plan to enter it in next years show....
this was an event to continue to visit......hope it warms up sooner for those in the cold......

Cleaned up the turn signals. I occasionally get a bit of carbon build up in the housing between the bulb and the connector. When the lights blink at me quickly (light out), it's the first thing I think of. The right one was lightly built up and of course a lot easier to extract. I cleaned up the connector and the bottom of the bulb. The left one was much heavier built up and a bit harder to get out. I scraped the carbon off the bulb (it had an actual ridge) and then the connector. Plugged them back in and all's well.
Still need to rebuild the master cylinder but it's too nice not to go for a ride.

I cleaned the bug guts off the windscreen from the Meet 'n Eat last weekend before going out for a long ride in the rain. I guess I could have saved myself the effort.

Rebuilt the master cylinder. It was a lot easier than I thought. Always best when you have all the right tools of course. I got it all back together (after a thorough cleaning too) and it's all working as expected. Now I just have to fix the throttle advance, replace brake pads, and... and... hey! I think that's it

Oh and the leak in the shifter seal. Still all minor things.
And starting trouble.
Over the past few years I've done some upgrades to the grips and levers. When I put heated grips on, I replaced the grips with thicker gel grips. A couple of years ago I wrapped the levers with leather to help in keeping my fingers warmer while winter riding.
A little note here. I use chain wax on my chain. No fling and it seems to protect the chain well enough. One problem is that there can be quite a lot of build up of wax around the front sprocket which collects dirt. And since it hardens, the clutch slave cylinder brings the wax and particulates into the slave to mix with the clutch (brake) fluid and because of the particulates, the o-ring degrades faster. It's also what changes the clutch fluid to gray. There's an o-ring in the master cylinder as well and the particulates will degrade that too so fluid leaks back into the dust cover which eats the very thin plastic and causes it to disintegrate.
When I opened the master cylinder, I found what I thought was an o-ring but it was in the piece that dropped off (the press pin for lack of a better work). A quick scrape and I found it was a wax and particulate mixture. So it's possible that the additional ring was giving me a little extra leeway with being able to modify the lever and grips.
Anyway, I have to push it in just a tad harder to press the sensor so the bike will start.
And that's your clutch line lesson for the day
