Wow. Fabulous photos. Nice bike for the trip. As others have said, it did look cold.
I was last in NFL in 1975 on our honeymoon cross Canada trip....
How did you manage that...you can only go WEST from NFLD
Beautiful pics GG
Pretty amazing to think just how far those giant ice cubes have travelled to get there and not melt. Makes for stunning photos

Don't mind CDN - he's an island boy now (Vancouver) and gets easily confused
Nice pics - very clear and with good color. Part of the "joy" of moving to the east coast is that I'll be closer to the Maritimes and will be able to make the trip myself.

A few photos from my recent tour around the eastern side of the big Island of Newfoundland...
Most of those could easily be sold for use in a Yamaha brochure. Excellent shots!

For those of you who don't know, GraniteGray is the unofficial Minister of Tourism for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
He's DRZ400S on the
http://www.ridetherock.com/forums/cmps_index.php
site.
I've been drooling on my keyboard looking at the pictures he's posted on that site.

Okay, what am I missing?
Last in NFL in 1975 implies I don't live there.
Ergo I live elsewhere.
Elsewhere outside NFL is going to be West.
Honeymoon in 1975, suggests that we travelled from the west --BC, which is as far west as you can get, to NFL which is as Far East as you can get...
Please enlighten?
wtf?!? Ok, I know I'm not myself lately being on a 4am-noon shift the past two weeks (only 3 more fricken days
) but I remember posting this in response to
someone
taking a wrong turn and getting lost in NFLD. One of three things happended here:
1. Either that part of the post was edited out/deleted while I was typing mine up (but no clue why it wouldn't show your posted as being edited though)
2. I meant to quote someone elses post but I can't find it within this thread now
3. I have truely lost it. Completely. Help me
Appologies vstromtourer!!!!!

Fantastic pictures!
You should consider submitting a few of those for the STN calendar this fall.
I've flown into Gander and Goose Bay but have never had the chance to spend any time seeing the area. Beautiful.

Route 204 and Route 363, here on the Island of Newfoundland, are the two 'Dr. Seuss' routes pictured in those photos I posted, but one of the very best routes, with very little traffic, and incredible twisties, coupled with major changes in elevation (can you say "roller-coaster'?) is Route 100, between Point Verde and St. Brides (a.k.a. 'The Cape Shore).

The 363 is way out of the way down on the South Coast, in the Harbour Breton area, but the 204 is just off the main Route 1 highway, about an hour and half outside of the City of St. John's.
My favorite and most easily accessible routes on the island would be...East Coast...100/90/80/70/10 and West Coast...430/431/460/463. You can also combine Route 100 with Route 90 and Route 10, here on the East Coast, to make for an incredible day long 600 km (400 mile) ride of endless twisties and coastal vistas. That run would locally be referred to as the 'Cape Shore' and 'Irish Loop'...
Oh and, here's a segment of Route 100, just to wet your appetitie...

I hear you have good uncrowded surf up there too. Just might have to come check it out for myself one of these days before all the ice melts.

Yep...
There's several world-class surfing spots up here, but ones that my surfing buddies would kill me, if I pointed them out to you. Those dudes are so secretive and territorial, it's unreal.
I like the "before the ice melts" comment. Sure makes you wonder how long it'll take, when you see hundreds of icebergs from Greenland, floating by here. But most of Newfoundland sits 300 feet, or more, above sea level, so we should be okay here for awhile.

Nice...that map's gettin me stoked.
Ruffly how long to run S from St John's on 10 around the coasts & N on 100 to the ferry? I got ~7hrs to play, but could start earlier if it'd take longer. They only run every 2 days so I
GOTTA
make it.

Seven hours would be enough to do it at a leisurely pace, and stop at Belle's Restaurant in Placentia, for some first class seafood, before you get on the ferry. You could do St. John's to Argentia (where the ferry docks), via Routes 10 and 100 in about 4 hours, if you wanted to push it, so seven hours is certainly plenty of time.
If 6/27 wasn't my lovely lady's b-day, I'd be taggin' along with you on that ride for certain.

Me and a few buddies are heading to the island the first week of July. We're def. going to hit up Gros Morne... any other suggestions? We are thinking of going sea kayaking too; any idea which outfit is the best for that?
