Oh and since you are getting the bike in Switzerland my recommendation is the R1200GS.  You'll want the extra HP on the Autobahn and Autostrasse.  But its nimble enough for the other roads you'll experience.

Do you have a route set?

Yup serious.  Just ask Ant.  He needed to get gas so my GPS said something like 16km to the nearest gas station.  Well that was as the crow flies and it ended up being around 35km due to the switch backs up and over the pass.  We stopped on the way back and took the cable car...freaking awesome.  I would recommend doing that.

Maybe it's a new station, but there's gas available about 5km E of Arraba on the road to Cernadoi.

Yes, I'm back  Bigsmile

Going through over 2,000 pictures.

Amazing, just amazing.

That's where we rented our BMW.  FANTASTIC place.  Take a moment and look through the entire show room and upstairs at their gear area.  I'll blow your mind on the inventory.

Also go ahead and arrange for them to pick you up from the train station.  It's a short nice walk but if you don't have to do it....why should you?   Lol  I wish I could tell you the exact right train but I can't remember...there are two lines to get there and one of them uses a street car.

Oh and the people behind the desk don't really speak English if you need that.  But the manager you'll end up dealing with does.  Great guy.

Our experience with Moto Mader was extraordinary.  They did indeed pick us up at the station in Aarau (which would not be walkable from their dealership), and everything was first-class.  We returned the bikes shortly before closing, so I only had a few minutes to go upstairs to the gear part of the store -  EEK! Hail Drool Inlove.  I could have easily spent a few hours there.  They have more items in their discount racks than all the gear combined in 20 dealerships in the U.S.

Yeah that one is a tad far...but there is a closer one.

As to the gear...yeah I was a kid in a candy store.   Cool

At this moment I kinda want to fly back into Zurich and rent from them again even though I want to head to Spain.   Bigok

In case you guys don't get over to the ride reports forum often, I'm in the middle of posting my trip report from the Dolomites.

I ended up renting the R1200RT.  The weather forecast was getting worse and worse as the departure day approached, so I figured the extra weather protection would be worthwhile.  If only I could have packed light enough for the KTM SM-T....
