Well it's only 3 weeks until I fly over to the US for the IBR 2009.

Being only the 3rd Australian to ride this 11,000 mile in 11 day event. More about it here.

At the first checkpoint Davo is 44th in the field of 101. Another Aussie, Margaret Peart is 70th.

Davo's supporters Down Under and elsewhere are in a state of shock and devastated by the news that he hit a deer less than 3 hours from the finish and apparently (details sketchy) has suffered a head injury.

Our thoughts are with you for a speedy recovery Davo.

I just received the news in an Email, and logged on here for more news.

"Davo a real estate agent well known as a long distance rider and founder of the farriders website was fulfilling a long held ambition to compete in the Iron Butt Rally in the USA and Canada he was going to ride 1000 miles per day for 11 days and had just entered back into the US and was 100 miles from the finish when he hit a deer and suffered severe head injuries and died in hospital, his family are now awaiting the return of his remains , he left a wife and 4 children and 1 grandchild, I am sure the hearts of the motorcycling community go out to his family and friends.
I believe that there will be a large motorcycle guard of honour when he is returned

This was sad news. I live 100 miles from where he had his accident.
