Fifth Annual Dream House 500
A Special North Georgia Adventure Touring and Sport Touring Event
Alpharetta, GA Saturday, October 3, 2009
We are pleased to announce the fifth annual Dream House 500, a special adventure touring and sport touring motorcycle event. The AMA sanctioned ride will start and finish at the Honda Rider Education Center in Alpharetta, GA.
Three complimentary meals will be included in the day's activities. A continental breakfast will be served during morning registration. Lunch will be catered on the shore of a beautiful north Georgia lake with live music entertainment. The entree for the hot evening meal on the patio will be your choice of grilled chicken or steak.
After the evening meal, we will award our grand prize, a $300 gift certificate courtesy of Lawrenceville Honda-Yamaha and Parts Unlimited for anything in the catalog.
The sport touring route will be about 500 km (300 miles). The adventure touring route for those who like a little dirt on their tires will be about 400 km (250 miles). The Adventure Tour is shorter to allow time to enjoy a selection of scenic unpaved Forest Service roads in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Each rider will be issued a route sheet with detailed route instructions. These are self-guided tours, but we encourage riders to travel in small groups.
This is not a parade event. This is for riders who like to ride lots of miles of twisty pavement (Sport Tour) or twisty dirt roads (Adventure Tour).
Please join us for a special event for a special cause. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Dream House for Medically Fragile Children, Inc, a non-profit corporation, headquartered in Snellville, GA.
http://www.dreamhouseforkids.org/
The founder of the Dream House, Laura Moore, was chosen as ABC News Person of the Week.
Watch the video here (after the 30 second commercial)
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=2774657
The minimum donation requested is $100 per rider and $50 per passenger.
Tell your friends and family that you are raising money to help medically fragile children who have been abandoned by their families. Ask them to sponsor your ride for $5 or $10. You will be surprised at how quickly it adds up to $100 or much more.
Details of the event are here:

Loved it! The guy on the white GL was fast, Bill and I enjoyed following him through the twisties after lunch. And what a great cause! I'm going to really put the pressure on folks I know to donate next year. I still can't get over some of those kid's stories. Made a few new friends and had a great time! Wished I'd raised more money though!
Quote
Best route of any ride I've ever been on. I'll be back next year and with more $$$ for a great cause.
Quote
I had an incredible time! The route was awesome, the food was fantastic, and the folks I met were all great people! I don't think I could have asked for a better first tour. The bug has bit me, and I can't wait to do it again.I'm also really glad I got to meet the folks from the DreamHouse. It felt really good to be helping out those kids, and getting to meet one of them face to face really helped drive the point home.I am looking forward to next year's ride already. Thanks to those that put this event together, y'all did a great job!
Quote
Great ride. Like Bill I have saved the route sheets since many of the roads were fantastic. It was nice to meet the folks from DreamHouse and become more informed about the great work they do with the kids. I am committed to working harder at raising money for the ride next year.

I did the sport touring route last year and had a blast. Great (day long) ride, even greater cause. I'll be doing it again this year for sure !! $100 (more if you can possibly raise it) minimum is cheap for the lunch, dinner & prizes, the great riding and most of all helping a wonderful orginization like Dream House. I just thought I had been on most of the good riding roads in N. GA until I did this event last year. I'm sure we'll hit some more this year that I haven't been on. Can't wait !!

Check the details on the flyer. The dual sport or adventure touring route is about 65 miles of Forest Service and other dirt and gravel roads and about 185 miles of twisty pavement. Knobby tires are not required. I ride it on my V-Strom, no problem. The ride is a lot of fun.

The
Sport Tour
Routemeister (known amongst ST aficionados as "Magellan") has turned over the '09 Dream House 500 Sport Tour route sheets to me. It's another good one. There are a few old favorite asphalt ribbons in the mix, but also there are some new ones that have not appreared before in the previous four Dream House 500 events. Great riding, three meals included (continental breakfast at registration, catered hot lunch on a lake shore with live music entertainment, grilled chicken or steak dinner), nice Grand Prize to give away, great cause to benefit the Dream House for Medically Fragile Children, what's not to like? Come give it a try.
The ADVenture Tour Routemeister is putting the finishing touches on that route. Just need to check a few more turn-to-turn mileages and it will be ready.

sounds fun, but $100 is a little high for me right now. I wonder how many people can spare the hundred these days. I don't think my friends and family would help me pay. If they have an extra $5 it would go in their bikes gas tank so they can ride.

Today the
ADVenture Tour
Routemeister sent me the route sheets after his pre-ride. 240 miles! 8 hours of saddle time!
It's going to be fun and a full day of steadily getting after it.
There are three meals included for the day to keep up your energy level.

It's not pay for play like going to a movie. It is a tax deductible charitable donation to an organization dedicated to improving the lives of children hit with the double whammy of a debilitating illness and abandonment by their family. The ride is just a "thank you" to those who are inspired to donate. When you come to the event, you will get the message that it is not about the ride, it is about the children. One fellow put it this way:
Quote
I am in as well. I have been for at least the last 3 or 4 years. The first year I had no idea about the Dream House and just went for the ride. Meeting the young people that your donations help really tugged at my heart strings. Seeing the joy they get out of life with all the issues they have to go through makes the ride that much more meaningful. The roads, food, and company are great. See you guys there.
Clint
Some people give to charity and some don't. Everybody's circumstances and motivations are different.
Most folks are in the 15% or 25% or 28% Federal income tax brackets. In GA, most people are in the 5% - 6% state income tax bracket. So your marginal tax rate is most likely 20% to 34%. Like any charitable donation, you take a $100 deduction on your tax returns and the governments refund $20 - $34 of your taxes. Net cost to the donor is $66 - $80, depending on your tax rate. For the amount of warm feelings you take home with you, it's a bargain.

Those of us that give 'cheerfully' understand that it truly is better to give than to receive. Those who don't give charitably have a hard time understanding the concept. As Sam said, "Everybody's circumstances and motivations are different."
Hope to see you there

I didn't do the Dream House ride, but I did ride and even bumped into some DH riders at one of my stops. We agreed that the weather was absolutely perfect that Saturday.
