This bike looks like the total package.
I've heard bad maintenance/reliability stories about KTM's and don't really think that's something I want to get into - but I really like the bike - it may be worth the leap. Good to hear the fueling is right though - I figured it'd be similar to some other KTM's, which I heard was horrible.
Either way, 14 g's (is that with bags?) is a bit high for me - but certainly isn't out of line with the rest of the market.
EDIT: Sat on one - not bad - Adventure seems better and more like a do-it-all for me...
I got my 2010 for closer to 12K with a thousand dollar GPS, and bags included.

What more can you tell me? A good friend of mine is looking seriously at getting one. Seriously enough that he sold his GSXR 1000. Said he wanted something more touring-friendly with a major emphasis on the "sport" bit.

A friend of mine bought one of these a few weeks ago. I had a ride on the it at the weekend and all I can say is.....
F**king awesome!
That bike is just nuts - it comes with a free pillion, a little devil whispering in your ear. It makes you want to do bad things.
The engine is brilliant. It spins up (and down) so quickly, and loves to rev. The more you rev it, the more it screams COME ON!!! The throttle is often described in the magazines as being jerky on KTMs, but I just found it to be very precise - you need a good throttle hand, if you're ham fisted it won't like it. It's almost digital - you select exactly how much power / revs you want with the throttle and wallop, it's delivered.
The gearbox is nice and smooth, better than my Hondas.
The handling on the twisties is superb. It's like riding a 1000cc mountain bike. The steering is light and the bike flicks from side to side so fast. It wants you to lean more and more, that little devil egging you on.
The suspension was superb, tight in the corners yet long enough travel to soak up the bumps on the crappy roads we have. It's decent kit too, WP is owned by KTM I believe.
The brakes (when you need them, there's so much engine braking available) are excellent too, Brembo calipers with loads of power and feel. It comes with Marchenisi (sp?) wheels too.
It really is a mad piece of kit.
Bad points?
The first time I rode it was on a straight section, and I found the seat a little uncomfortable. Not a problem in the twisties though. The guy that owns it is a lot lighter than me and has no problem though. The riding position is generally good though, with much better visibility than you get on a sports bike. This is one of the real advantages of this sort of bike.
I didn't ride it in the dark, but I suspect the headlight won't be up to much. I might be wrong, but it's a small, H4 set-up so I wouldn't expect it to be great.
And it's a bit thirsty when thrashed. Probably 10% more fuel used than my Blade. Not an issue if you only do a few thousand miles per year, but for everyday use a consideration. Even so, I reckon it could be worth it. Averaged 41mpg (UK) over the weekend, including a fair bit of thrashing.
Even so, this is by far the best bike I have ever ridden. If I didn't have plans to move, I would be looking for one now. Loved it.

So I'm grateful that KTM has made sure that I don't have a clue where a street dealer is.

Sorry I took so long to answer, but I'm loving the bike. Just got back from some good runs up in the N GA mountains last weekend. Some curves and some back-roads up to the Appalachian trail. Anybody heard of Wildcat Rd? I was surprised how well the bike worked when it got rougher and also in deep gravel. I needed to lower the tire pressure a bit for that, but was going right back out on the hwy, so I didn't bother. Still worked fine.
Packing in those small bags was a breeze for the weekend and just pop em off and bring them in at nite. Rode with a Multi Strada 1200 for a few miles and had no prob keeping right with him when there was no traffic. We caught up to and passed several bikes as we went. We got behind some cagers and he started passing cars on curves to get on by. I wasn't that motivated, but it was nice to get a good look at one of those beauties in action.
Smt gave me the best weekend of this yr and I slept Sunday nite with a grin on my face, lol.

I just saw a /used/ 2010 for $12,700. There's a reason we call that dealership what we do, though.

I'm glad that the local KTM street dealer terrifies me, after what we went thru' with my 950SM.
