With the ESA and Traction Control, and ABS, they are matching the BMW GS for its features.  

Dry weight listed is 417 lb

20 liter gas tank is 5.3 gallons, same as the Tiger

Claimed 150 HP puts it as the most powerful in its class, as predicted

That's a total guess right there.  I think they are more likely to stand nose-to-nose on pricing, especially for all the gizmos on the MT1200S and Touring models.

15k for the base price, add $$$ for option packages. So, if you go full boat with Sport suspension, Touring package (bags, heated grips, etc), plus ABS I'm guessing 20k

I think both the improved Hypermotard 1100 and the new Multistrada are really interesting. The MS is shockingly light for a watercooled 1200cc 150-hp bike -- it actually weighs about the same as an FZ6! It's too bad the seat's the same height as the Multistrada seat; 33.5" is high for some of us.

Ok, now the wait begins, waiting for a wealthy Ducati fan with a short attention span to purchase one, spend more $ fixing it up with options than time in the saddle riding it, then get bored with it and sell it to me at a substantial discount.  

Of course I'll need to find someone to purchase my 04 Strada with 38,000 miles on it.

Yep, just like the HM.  Even with heated grips/gloves, I definitely like the idea of being able to keep my mitts out of the cold wind on late season day and night rides.  

I'm presently trying to fit some Tiger handguards on my Sprint, but it's clear that I should give up and order an MTS1200.

This Multi sounds like it will be an excellent touring bike.  I love the electronic bike set up and bet the Urban mode would be excellent in the rain.

Overall, it's a very attractive bike.  Similar to the older Multi, the front fairing has a bit of an acquired taste to it.  I can't wait to see it in person.  And, I can't wait for some reviews on it including exactly how it handles off road.  The sub 440 lbs weight I sure helps it be a better off-roader than others in its class.  But there are a lot of big trailies which claim off-road ability and some do it better than others (e.g. 990 Adventure v. Buell Uly).

The styling is nice but more racier than I would expect from the Multi. The last in comparison is much more utilitarian.

I agree with some of the others here.... looks like Ducati nailed it, or at least they have in theory. Like MK96 said, theres alot of electronics going on there for a brand new bike, I hope they have got it all right, if not this could be recall city or something that will drain your wallet dry after the warranty runs out.

I really like the look of it, never could get in to the current Strada.

150hp, ABS, heated grips, hardbags, ESA, lighter than a V-Strom and that beautiful Ducati sound. Damn!!

No, I'm serious.  If Ducati executes what they claim, this thing is bound to be a killer all in one bike.

Oh great another bike to consider for acquisition (damn you Ducati!!!)...  Looks great on paper, probably feels great from the seat, looks great from every angle but one - damn that beak is fugly...  I don't know if that will be enough to kill it for me, I'll have to wait till I see in person... The $15k starting buy in puts it level with other considerations, maintenance schedule/costs may knock it down a notch though...  As someone considering condensing down to one street bike, this looks like a contender...
