Not a problem here, we agreed I could have a bike many years ago. A lady who would decide in the middle of your biking enjoyment that it had to go for reasons clear only to her might present a problem.

I answered Pie, because it's Pie.  Really it's a moot question.

Simple fact is my wife would never ask me to give up riding, or anything else I am passionate about.  She loves me for who I am and accepts that my interests are part of what makes me who I am.  Some may say "well if you really love her then you'd give up anything for her".  Yes, I would give up anything for her sake, but I would not give up anything simply because she asked me to.  I did not fall in love with a woman who would ask me to do that sort of thing.  If she ever did, then it would probably be a wake-up call to me that she is not the same woman I fell in love with.

Of course, the issue is made even more moot by the fact that she encourages my riding, and as soon as we have the money I'm going to have to buy her a Ducati.  It's cheaper than the Bugatti she wants.   Lol

A pure hypothetical in my life as I have much support and encouragement for my riding and bikes from my family.

My personality is one that does not respond well to ultimatums ... but supposing that my riding or say another riding injury pushed my wife to the point of her saying " I can no longer support what you are doing and if you continue, I may have to question my ability to stay in this relationship with you."

I would do my best to accommodate her needs and stop riding. We have a great partnership, a great kid and such a good life as a result of that partnership inclusive of compromise and adjusted expectations on both our parts. Motorcycles are a big part of my life ... but only a part.

Really stopping to think about this, I had to go with "other." The bottom line is, I know my SO and our relationship enough that he wouldn't actually suggest I give up something without a damn good reason. So I would.

After a whole lot of arguing and yelling.  Bigsmile

i picked other cause my mind could be changed at any time for whatever reason since i'm a realist when it comes to money. if having no bike means we can afford a better life for the kids, then i may give it up for awhile. but FOREVER?  awww Hell NO. right now, we just bought a house (hopefully close on it in a few hours), have one baby girl with another showing up in less than a month. i don't think we'll have any real money issues, but ya never know. babies can have all kinds of medical issues (as most of you know) and family comes first. healthy kids means healthy family means happy family especially HAPPY Mommy. But for my wife to just come out of the blue and tell me i need to sell the bike, she better have the MOTHER of all reasons. i've sold bikes before but they were all decided by me. and usually to go buy another bike. which makes my wife worried since she thinks it's time once again for me to sell and buy again. dang woman knows me too well since i am putting the FJR (when i actually get it from Transport) up for sale. the main reason...  lo n behold..

to buy a 6th gen VFR!!

used... mind you, so i can learn how to do some customizing.  Bigsmile Bigsmile Bigsmile Bigsmile Bigsmile

also, the VFR was her first bike to ride on (way before we even started dating) and we absolutely loved it!

It's pie for me.  My wife rides and bakes on a regular basis.   Inlove

If the love of your life asked you to give up riding you probably need to reconsider who the love of your life is.  She certainly wouldn't be some selfish thoughtless bitch.

It would be expensive, and I'd miss her a lot, but at the stage I am at in my life and with the sacrifices I have made over the years for family, there isn't any way I am going to give up one of the very few things I pursue for the sake of the complete, uncomplicated, mind-clearing mental freedom it brings.

I've earned that.

Damned good reason option.

The correct answer was "pie," everyone.  "pie."

My wife undertands why I ride (her passion is horses) Neither of us would ask the other to quit riding, no matter how many trips we make to the ER.

Although, after one of my dirtbiking buddies crashed on our usual thurday night ride and broke his neck (paralyzed from the neck down) There was some discussion about "maybe you guys are getting to old for that?" We agreed that I wouldn't ride without a Leatt brace and all was fine again. But, I think she worries about me more now than she did before.

the above opinion is simply that of an average middle aged hick with one too many brain injuries... or, don't take it too serious.

Fortunately, I do not have this problem with motorcyces. My wife rides her own and is always looking at them. I tell her we can't buy anymore as I won't have any room to work on the ones we have.

There is a flip side to this question......which is whether the s/o demanding you give up riding would give up something that you demanded he/she quit?

In other words this isn't a realistic question because the answer depends on the nature of the relationship....some are such that quitting riding must be considered....others, well....

Sorry, no not really. I've been down this road before. I you don't understand me well enough to know what the answer is it's a mistake that we've gotten this far.

While I voted pie, Thanksgiving is next week, perhaps the question should have been given more serious consideration.

Had my loving wife taken that kind of stand, I'm not sure I'd have still been riding.  It would have been a serious concession, but my family means everything to me.   Had she been the type to demand her way or the highway, I doubt we'd have married in the first place.

Make mine Pumpkin please.
