I'd be perfectly willing to give it up for the love of my life. After all, she would come first, my love of motorcycles would come second.

There is no woman who could be "the love of my life" if she didn't love me for me.  "Me" is already a motorcyclist, it's not just something I do, it's part of who and what I am.

I don't really see it as something to be "given up" in the name of love.  What if she wanted you to give up all forms of mechanical transportation out of fear for your safety?  Or modern medicine for religious reasons?  Or any of a million other things that are commonplace to most and anathema to a few.  Would you, could you give up telecommunications or indoor plumbing for love?  Is it really love if you have to change yourself into someone else to get it?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for personal growth and such.  But I suspect that we all have stuff in way more need of changing than what we drive.

I'd give up riding only if I had an accident or very close call that in my mind was simply unavoidable.....and riding was no longer worth the risk.  But knock on the wood, those things havent happened and hopefully never will.

When I first met my wife, I told her like I had told every other woman I dated.
The bike is a part of who I am.  You do not have to ride with me or like it.
But is part of the package.

Now that I am married,  some of the wifes friends suggested that maybe she should tell me to give up ridding.
The wife responds to the comments with,  I will be missed Lol.  And her friends shut up EEK!

If they Love you , they accept you for who you are and not try to change you.

I've made it very clear to the women in my life , including wives, that Motorcycles were a part of my life before they came along , and will be till I can no longer ride. Accept it or move on .

I masturbate too much and so far, nobody has tried to stop me.

I saw this on a bathroom wall so it must be true.

I would give up motorcycling if she asked me to.

Skydiving, BASE jumping, flying general aviation aircraft, hanggliding, autoracing, Thai hookers, or BJJ training could fill the void nicely.

But I did spend a few years working on a book about safe riding. I've clearly put some thought into being safe on two wheels. But, hey! You want me to start from scratch and earn some new lumps in something I'm totally unfamiliar with? That's fine by me! But ask me to become a loser couch potato, and you've found yourself the wrong guy...

In the interim, like Stromgal said... No S.O. = No Problem.

1. My life insurance is more than adequate, and paid up.
2. Sadly I've been riding for a very long time, but still enjoy it.
3. My wife, who I've been married to, also for a long period of time, is aware of 1 & 2.
4. We've never been about ultimatums, which is why we've been happily married for a very long time.

So I had to cast my vote for pie.

Not a chance, I've been on and around motorcycles my entire life and have no intentions of quitting riding until I can no longer phsically control a bike. Anyone involved with me needs to keep that in mind. Simple as that.

I'm afraid she'd have to be shown the door. First, it would mean selling 4 motorcycles (5 next year with a dual sport purchase) and second it would mean dropping my next up 7 year ambition of doing a sub 1:40 lap at Laguna at 70 yrs.

(ps) Means finding 15 seconds!   Headscratch Lol

Mine would never suggest unless there were some pretty objective concerns... in which case I would listen closely and consider what she had to say. Doesn't mean I would agree, right or wrong, but it would certainly get my attention.

In my case, this was not just an academic question.

I rode in high school and my first wife knew it and said nothing.  As soon as we got married, motorcycles were non-gratis.  I found this out when we were in the car going home after looking at a new bike.  She through a royal fit, even kicking in the dash of my AMC Gremlin (yeah, I had one).

I got a used Kaw Z1 a couple of years later while stationed in Okinawa without asking first.  From that point on, I never let the garage be bike-less.

The 1st wife is now an ex, and my 2nd wife is more understanding, but even with her, there are still some major motorcycle-related fights.

NEVER gonna stop riding Nuts .  I'm one of the lucky ones, my wife and daughters understand; they may not always cheer when I get into my gear but they know how much I love to ride Inlove.  Sheesh, what's better than an open road with twisty curves and no cagers in front of you?!   firedevil
