F'ing magnets, how do they work!?

« on: November 19, 2009, 08:01:57 PM »

Hell For Leather (hellforleathermagazine.com) is reporting that there will be no streetbikes imported in to the American market for 2010 until 2009 inventory is bought down, and then probably as 2011 models.  I've also heard this rumor from other sources.  Hey, there's always Canada...

According to an internal source, Suzuki will import no GSX-Rs or other streetbikes into the American market for 2010 as the unsold 2009 models on dealer floors are expected to satisfy demand. Overall, US motorcycle sales through the first three quarters of this year total just 434,370 compared to 771,950 during the same period last year, a drop of 44 percent. Suzuki has announced no new street models for the 2010 model year. We were unable to reach Suzuki for an official comment, but word has it 2010 models are available for order should dealer stocks unexpectedly be diminished.

Hey, that means I'll have a better chance of grabbing one of those sweet '09 Suzuki Burgman 400 scooters in the white color they introduced for 2009!!  Bigok

(I'm only half-kidding there...)

Other than the perennial fave, the SV the only Zook that really makes me lament this is the new GSX1250-FA (fully clad ST version of the Bandit). That'd definitely be a short-list bike for me.

Well I guess that confirms the suspicions.  Wonder if they'll have a fire sale soon, I always did like the GSXR.

It's still a rumor - no official confirmation.

I wonder why the US was (apparently) the only market targeted.  Other markets seem to be getting 2010 models.

I would guess that they didn't over ship to other markets to the same degree. Let's hope for big things in 2011.

Do other markets have the built up inventory we do?  I know between the two Suzuki dealers near me, there are 8 or so gsxr1k's to choose from.  The move makes sense, I just wish they'd bring the new 1250 models over.  That would at least get traffic into the showrooms.

It's not just Suzuki who is having trouble selling their superbikes.  The CBR1000RR is available for songs and dances ($6-$7000).  If I find a CBR1000RR+CABS for $8-9k, I'd have trouble not buying it.

I'm with Luv... The new 1250 F is super sweet.

Be interesting to see this drop in motorcycle sales translated into prices on the "used" market.

I think that's already happening.  NADA pricing on bikes and cars has been falling like rocks over the last 120 days.  Plenty of good buys in the used market for cash buyers from private parties.

I liked that Suzuki ST....I was hoping to maybe pick up a used one in a year (yes, I'm one of those...).  Was ready to call it quits on my trade/sale of the FZ1 and wait, but I guess my search for a Sprint/Futura/ZZR12 (after a trade or sale of the FZ1) will continue.

Suzuki is shooting themselves in the foot.

The local Honda store has 2008 leftovers %0.99 fixed rate with $2,500 bonus bucks, offer expires 3/31/10.

The local Suzuki shop has '08 1250 Bandits sitting on its floor. $6,999 list.

These may not be drastically excellent deals, but they're sure to get better as winter has arrived here with cold and the wet.

That says maybe, but Suzuki has to move its stock lest they face a similar situation that Yamaha experienced in the early to mid '80s. In '97 I picked up a used '82 Seca 650 and the previous owner still had the original bill of sale. It originally sold in '85 for $2K OTD. In '82 I bought a new one for $2.7K OTD.

It has nothing to do with the economy.  Suzuki top management is just horribly upset with the "gangsta-fying" of some of their finer models.  Rumor is that they saw a picture of a Busa with spinnaz on it and decided to cut the US off completely.
