Time to start thinking about the Spring Break Out -

Where: Little Abner's, Slade KY
When: April 29th - May 2nd

Hey guys - here's the planning for the Spring Break Out "Just for Fun" event at Little Abner's on Derby Weekend.

Rough plan.....
Departing Chicago Thursday AM - Bypass Louisville KY and meander back roads to Slade KY.

Welcome dinner Bruen's 6PM Private Room. Separate checks.

Friday - Breakfast at Bruen's as desired,
ride one of five routes from HSTA STAR 2005.
Lunch on your own.
6PM Catered Barbecue under the Pavilion at Abner's Motel. $10 for catered meal. BYOB.

Saturday - Breakfast as desired, take your pick of routes, lunch on your own.
Dinner Bruen's 6PM Private Room, or own your own.

Sunday - Depart for home.

Please reserve your own room at Lil' Abner's Motel.

Chuck spoke to Billy Abner and here's his rate: $50 for single bed no more left / $60 for double bed. Free LD telephone, pool, bike rags, frig & micro, cable TV, all single level - park next to the door of your room.

This discounted room rate includes use of the Pavilion on Friday Night.

There are some multi-room cabins, but make these accommodations on your own. I'll check into camping shortly.

Abner's books solid nearly every weekend (Spring through Summer) and is a well-known recreational, motorcycle friendly motel.

Third year and our third location, time to consider joining us.  So far we have 10 riders committed to going and a few that are tentative.

Questions?

If you are considering going on the Spring Break Out, please post up...and if you haven't already made reservations please due so. Billy Abner, owner of the hotel is asking for a head count so he can release unnecessary rooms.

There are also one or two rooms to share, if you like. Please post to request a roommate as well.

Thanks Chuck

I just called today and we have 17 rooms reserved with 4 remaining in our block at the negotiated rate.

I'm trying to keep these open for another week, and should have a firm date shortly.

There are at least two rooms where roommates might be available. PM for these pls.

Thanks.

No can do...there is an ST Owners Tech Day here in S. Central Wisconsin....and the Black Nail Brigade Ride is that weekend, as well.

Sounds like fun, though.  Ride Safe...

Just read this Thread. Have relatives in Winchester, KY. May ride up Fri, 30th. And try to hook up with a group in Slade Sat. morn. That's my old stompin' ground.

In a place called Pardeeville.  How can you pass that up?  I think there are 4 people showing for tech, 20 people showing to socialize.  Lol

Robert,
We don't have a specific time for departure, well not yet anyway.  A lot may depend on the weather forecast.  What time you thinking of heading in?

Strong Storms and Heavy rain predicted for the weekend down here(Middle Tenn.)
Looks a little better in Central KY. But I have to be back to work Monday Morn. Don't look forward to riding in high winds and Lightning. Probably not coming, dammit! Hope you all have a better outcome!

There was a great turn out, riders from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Georgia, numbering close to 18.

The Red River Gorge must be some sort of secret that I am happy to expose.   Little Abners' the motel is right on it.   You make a left out of the motel and you are immediately in the shit.  On Friday B52  and I missed the the entrance for breakfast and were having so much fun we put 15 miles on before we decided to stop and ask for help.   And then had to turn around and have repeat of the same fun on the way back.

Weather did put a damper on the fun and after a morning of riding through the Daniel Boone National Forest.

Kentucky offered great hospitality, some really good food at incredible prices.  I had a ribeye steak, huge baked potato and salad for $12.95 throw in a home made coconut cream pie and a 20% tip for a total of $20.00.

Here is the photo slide show from the few images I took, post a link or send me your images and I will remix the the video.  That would make it much better.

David,
Thanks for posting these up.  I forgot about how that tunnel swallowed the road.  Looked more scary during the down pour when we road through it, at least for me.  Awesome roads and great friends.  Oh ya, good food at good prices made for a great weekend, except for the rain part.

I must comment on Lil' Abners as a hosting hotel.  This place is old, but very well maintained and very clean and very easy to work with.  If you're in the area and need a place to stay, I highly Lil' Abners.  Word of warning, if you're a non smoker, ensure you request a non-smoking room.
