Simply amazing! This embodies every aspect of traveling on two wheels. A dual sport will definitely be in my future!

Thanks for the time and energy you spent on this ride report. Thumbsup

Damn, this is going to be good.
Damn, I was supposed to be doing some other work this morning.
Damn, I'm hooked on this report now.

You, sir, should be writing books!

Thanx. Yeah, I know the feeling when you get caught up in a ride report. Work, meh  Lol

 Withstupid

Fantastic report. Thanks for putting the time and details into it Thumbsup

 Thumbsup

Man what a ride and report. you might want to call Nat Geo or something, this is heads and tails above some of the crap they put on TV today!

I wish I had a contact to start going that route, but it's way harder then it sounds. Thanks though.

Wonderful as always, Jay. Thanks for helping those of us with PMS.   Thumbsup Thumbsup

No problem, anytime.  Wink

Major Epicness!!!

Fantastic stuff for sure... Hail

I thoroughly enjoyed your report. Especially the Colorado sections as I spent most of my summers there growing up. Now, I have to go back on a motorcyle.

I know its a lot of work to add so many pictures and so much narrative so thank you so much for putting in the effort.  Bigok

No problem. I enjoy doing it, as it's a great way to capture the moment.

That's was some ride and what a great write up  Thumbsup

Like others have said, its quite time consuming to do a long and thorough report = Thanks for the labour and posting here.  Bigok

 Thumbsup

Thank you from a rider stranded in wintry Alberta Canada with a BROKEN ankle.  Bigok

Oh, but I DID manage to ride past here last year on the way home from Colorado:

Must respect the ankle  Crazy

Great, another Jammin report.   Wink   Now i'm sucked in.  His first report through Alaska got me to do my first trip and now this.  And i have a ton of work to do today.  Guess i'll have to read it in bits and pieces when i can divert my eyes away from work.

Just a quick scroll through and I can tell its going to be great   Bigok  keep up the good reports and excellent rides Jammin!

Awesome. Where was your first trip to? Did you have a link to a ride report?  Thumbsup

Good to hear. I hope it wasn't sacrilegious to post a dual sport ride report on sport-touring but I hope I can convey why I was converted or accepted this aspect of motorcycling. Sport-touring is still a very special kind of riding, and dual-sport touring is a different kind of riding. Best solution is a bigger garage...  Bigsmile

Really enjoyed reading your  ride report for both the  Continetal Divide as well as the  Alaska trip. Have a few questions...you obviously planned it out... what resourses did you use? Any websites? How did you downoad the  trip waypoints?
You researched out the   items like the tent and such, where did you get them?
Lastly, what was your budget? How much did you end up spending?

Hi Dave,
Thanks. Yeah, I feel trips like this go a lot more smooth if you have good information. Of course, there's always room for when things dont go so smoothly and that makes it interesting. I mainly used advrider.com to research for these two trips. Lots of similar ride reports on there with good info on the route, gas locations, climate, etc. For Alaska, since there's not that many roads, I just used Google Maps and Streets & Trips to plot a route. I can share that file with you. For this Continental Divide, the gps file with all the waypoints is posted on ADVrider or you can get it from here (right-click, save as).

Regarding gear, I got the Catoma Twist 1 person tent from Sierra Trading Post.com (googled it), the LifeSaver water filter I got directly from the distributor.

For this 2 week trip, I think I spent less than a thousand on the trip (minus setting up the bike). About $450 on gas for 6,000 miles. I spent about $350 on lodging for the 2 weeks, with free camping thrown in there and the rest on food, misc.

Cheers,
Jay

Awesome report.  But i'm awefully ticked that now i have to add another trip to my bucket list.  hmmmmm....trying to figure out if i can fit this in, in the next 2 yrs.  Smile

Just great.  I had no idea there was a dirt road that went most the way from Canada to Mexico!!!

Dang, man, what bike of yours do you plan to use?

I will give you $20 cold, hard, American cash to put knobbies on the F4i. Bigok

Very inspiring ride report.  I am hoping to get posted back to CO so that I can get myself a new KLR and try out and adventure like this.  Thanks for such a great post.

I've been looking for an excuse to swap out the xx for something dual sport.  Smile

The F4i with knobbies?  Interesting idea!!  I bet that could really throw a roost at 13,000 rpm.  Smile
