I'm off to North Wales at the weekend in the SV, although I'm only 3-4 Hours away, I've never biked over there before. My first port of call is going to be a lovely place (so i'm told), called Bishop's Castle, then i'm heading upto the mountains of Snowdonia.

I know it's a bit late in the day but anyone else have any good experiences in this territory ? (no sheep stories please)  Smile

He are my pictures from my foray across the frontier into Wales. Cool

Northern Wales is one the best places I've ever been for riding motorcycles.

Faaaast sweepers  Inlove

The A483 running north to south is exhilarating stuff  Thumbsup

All the roads around Snowdonia are good riding, including the Pass of Llamberis. You can hardly go wrong. I haven't been to South Wales much except to Brecon Beacons. Watch out for speed enforcement on weekends!

Calling Orson ...  Bigsmile

I have driven through Wales, but that was Donkey's years ago.

I am sure Cpl Punishment will be along shortly as well.

 Fluellen

Your majesty says very true: if your majesties is
remembered of it, the Welshmen did good service in a
garden where leeks did grow, wearing leeks in their
Monmouth caps; which, your majesty know, to this
hour is an honourable badge of the service; and I do
believe your majesty takes no scorn to wear the leek
    upon Saint Tavy's day.

KING HENRY V

    I wear it for a memorable honour;
For I am Welsh, you know, good countryman.

Sorry ... Wales makes me think of Zulus and Shakespeare.  Smile

I biked through Snowdonia in the spring a couple of years ago. I stayed in Conwy at The Bridge Inn
(http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/20/20782/Bridge_Inn/Conwy), it was terrific great food, cask ales , terrific innkeepers ( it may have changed hands I'm not sure, they used to have their own web site I cant seem to find ) secure mc parking and great access to all the passes in the area.

The roads in the area are amazing, also worth checking out Portmeirion (http://www.portmeirion-village.com/en/index.php).

Have a great trip and post upon your return.

Yes, I'm here, and always watching. Fluellen-my arse-Llewelyn.

Anyway, Wales has some of the bestest biking roads in the world. Watch out for Nazi coppers in North Wales though-don't speed. You're okay in Powys and Ceredigion and further south. Stunning roads, stuning scenery, nice people (except the North Welsh, who are seriously up their own backsides-but the country is good). Nice to great hotels and B&b's, fecking wonderful campsites. It does rain, but the rain is warmer than in Loegr.

Go. Tis sumptous. Good biking, good country, nice hospitality, much is still empty.

Was a great day, I posted some pics and a ride report http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,5083.0.html

However I was (and am) still confused about the speed camera warnings etc. there were hundreds of speed camera signs but no cameras.... are they just there as a warning and so they can legally set-up mobile speed traps anywhere they like? or did I simply not see the cameras and will soon be recieving a bunch of speeding fines through the door?

They generally use mobile scamera vans and just have the signs everywhere to discourage speeding.

North Yorkshire also has lots of camera signs on busy roads e.g. A65, A59 and the Stokesley-Helmsley road, but they don't have any scamera vans.  Just lots of unmarked Subaru Impreza's  EEK!

I only tend to ride in North Wales when heading to Anglesey to visit SWMBO's relatives and the heavy handed policing really spoils the fun - most of the roads are wide open sweeping bends which require speeds well above 60mph to really enjoy...

BTW, if you liked North Wales, the west coast and Highlands of Scotland will blow your mind - they're absolutely awesome  Hail

I had heard the same thing about Wales' police enforcement but, both times I rode their I had big fun  Bigsmile. Of course I was following a local who knew the roads. I asked him about the speed enforcement. He said you had to choose your spots and that most of the enforcement occurred on weekends.
