to the dirt. We have a new Husqvarna dealer here in Albuquerque. I
prefer the simplicity of a 2-stroke. CafeHusky.com has alot of info and alot of guys & girls riding them
How are the Huskys doing around you guys that still ride dirt ?

Don't see many at all around here. There just aren't dealerships in this area. Everyone I know that owns one loves it, but they own four strokes (Te510/570/610).

Never saw one EVER in Michigan other than at a bike show. Everyone here that is serious rides a KTM. They still make 2 strokes too. 250EXC is a great one as is 300.

I know you are looking at a 2-stroke Husky, but just wanted to share my thoughts:

Riding buddy of mine purchased a leftover 2008 Husky TE610 last spring for about $6,000 OTD.  BMW (who now owns Husky) was offering a $1,000 discount off MSRP on leftover bikes.

It is a cool looking bike, and a true dual sport.  I have ridden it several times, and here is my opinion, and I will compare it to my 2007 WR450:

-Heavier, weighs about 60 pounds more than my WR
-Not as nimble in tighter trails, but more stable on the open road
-Poor gas mileage when dualsporting, Husky maybe gets 35mpg vs. my WR getting around 45mpg
-Husky has good brakes
-Power is comparable to a WR, Husky has more low rpm grunt, and less upper rpm rev

Hope this helps. . .

Thanks, I'm looking at strictly dirt. If I could afford about 3 more bikes one of those TE510's would be fun
to putts around town on.

MY dealer here also has Triumphs and Ducati and have great service and seem to care about customers
getting the most out of their bikes'

The Husqvarna's are good bikes if they keep good service and parts availability they will expand

I rode a TE450 out on the road a little and the 09 300WR yesterday in the parking lot. I think I freaked them out
a little because they had a strip of dirt and gravel about 10' by 20' at the front of the lot by the street. I felt total at
ease on the WR right away . I hit that strip of dirt turning and roosted like race day , did a powerslide on the pavement by accident
but without drama. It handled good I was pleasantly surprised.   Jetted and setup for my weight I think I could hammer on it.

The TE didn't seem like it pulled hard I don't think the correct map was in it they were have hard starting problems with it

I WOULD like to try a TXC 450 though but I don't know if I would change my mind for a 4-stroke. Valves ? if I broke it  it would be a fortune
to fix it  OMGOMGOMG

A friend of mine rebuilt the motor in his 570 not too long ago. I don't remember the exact price for each valve, but I do remember almost passing out when he told me what it was.

For a dirt only bike there is no good reason to buy a four stroke. Mixing gas is easy and you can't beat the maintenance...just dump out the tranny oil every few rides and replace it. No oil filters, no valves,  no BS. If you're really anal you could check the piston, rings, and cylinder every year. Even replacing the piston and rings yearly is only about $200 ( on that 300 it'll probably be a bit more).

Were they Ti valves?  If so he should have replaced them with SS valves.  I rebuilt my KTM 400 last year with 4 new Kibble SS valves and they were only $39 a valve.  Why were they replaced?  To address a limitation in the KTM head which has now been resolved.  This means I odn't have to adjust the valves very often (about every 15-20 hours of use).

2-strokes are fine...but you should buy one if you like how they ride...not cause you are trying to save maintance costs which will be the same in the end.

I'm pretty sure they were stainless and I believe they were around $100 each.  Crazy

A-pug   The biggest problem I can see with one is that tiny MX gas tank on an off-road bike. I doubt Clarke and IMS/Acerbis are making bigger tanks also. Also, emissions equipment needs to be removed or they feel like a 175 according to articles I read, but you can do this yourself pretty easily. Whichever 2STROKE you select I hope you enjoy it.

Stock tanks on the KTM 2 strokes are 3 gallons. You can get up to a 6.6 gallon of you really wanted one.

Needed to be more clear.....The tiny tank ON THE HUSKY 2 Stroke could be a problem. But since that post I saw a big tank on one. See pg 23 of AMA magazine(Perry King on cover,Feb.). That guy seems to have an IMS tank that looks bigger on his off-road Husky so maybe they are available.

A friend had a husky 4 stroke, never had any troubles with it and it was a great all around bike. I too prefer the 2 strokes. I would look at a KTM as well, they are pretty hard to beat in the woods.

The 300WR has a 2.5 gal tank that is pretty good but IMS makes a 3.4 I think

Did he ride the Husky HARD ?

I saw a U-tube video of a TC450 4T beating a CR250 so it is fast. 4 stroke ? 2 stroke ?

I have to do something with the Tiger before getting one

It was a 450 and he rode it very hard. Hare scrambles, enduro's, and weekly woods rides. No problems. He sold it because he quit riding due to injuries. I wouldn't be afraid to own one, but would rather have a KTM, the 300XC/w is as close to perfect as you can get IMO Wink

I only bought the 250XCW because I couldn't pass up the deal I got on it, otherwise I would have held out for a 300.

Well I finally decided to get back in to the dirt, I'm picking up my new 09 300WR tomorrow
I just have to wait on accessories to come in

1. IMS 3.4 gal tank black
2. MSR radiator guards
3.Uptite skidplate pipe guard
4 Shark fin

I'll see how stable it is before I decide on a Scott stabilizer
I'm sure once it is broke in I will need springs on both ends due to my massive girth

I haven't been this fired up on a new bike in a long time,I hope to have alot of fun in the mountains and desert with it
I even looked at the desert racing series for the last race of the year, giving me this summer to get back my rhythm and timing let alone getting back in shape.  Pics to follow Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup
