Just back from Springfield. Those were the best races I ever saw any time I have been there! A great wknd for MI riders as Wiles won the ST and Bryan Smith the Mile on the Kwacker over Carr and Mees. Wiles wins the 450 #1 plate again. Michael Toon 22L won the Mile in Pro Singles. Great 450 racing as no one can break away! The LCQ could have been won by any of 10 Guys(and one girl....83J Tiff cudos) but there just was not room for all of them on the finish line! Just great racing....very few spills and O INJURIES! JD Beach 95C  made the main on an HD in his 1st pro main.... On a borrowed bike.... 17th fastest time.... looked like he belonged there....and now has a natl number for next year. Watch the new kids in 2011... Brad Baker(fast time of EVERYONE AT THE ST!), JD BEACH, THE AVILA kid from CA and Jeff Carver from IL. These kids could be impact riders right away in 2011. Beach had a great wknd and his carefree...this is just FUN attitude reminds you a lot of a little Ricky Graham. If you were not there get a movie. You will love it.

Mugwump....You missed great racing ! You should have sold your children to be there! I never saw a BETTER SPRINGFIELD! Get the You Tube of the 450 LCQ! If this does not pump you up to go next yr. then you don't like racing! 10 of them in the space of 3 cars at 100 mph man! And all of them lived to tell their grandchildren about it....especially 83J Tiffany, the MI girl in a sea of boys! Man she has a lot of heart and a fast 450 Honda. Any one of them could have won that race...just a matter of room. And that was just to MAKE THE FINAL! Go next year no matter what!!!!

I won't be able to make the spring race. Hopefully the fall race. I made it out there earlier this year, it's only an 18 hour ride Wink It's one of the reasons I just picked up an FJR. Cool

Took forever, but here's a link to the photos I shot at the '10 Peoria TT.

http://www.jeff-cook.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=15

Aside from the one of Wiles at the end, I didn't have much chance to do anything to any of the photos.

There is nothing like the Sprint Car Knoxville Nationals.  Bigsmile

I'd love to see the flat track boys race on this track some day!

Well it is down to the wire again....10 pts separate Jake Johnson and Joe Kopp. The edge probably goes to Jake on the shorttrack and his mile bike looks faster than Kopps also. All that wet weather there may make the track faster than the spring race there which Kopp won. I give the championship nod to JJ. Both great racers though.

There's only one race left, and it's a Mile.  Jake only needs to finish 6th or better.  The last time at this track, Kopp won and Jake came in 6th.  So, even if they repeat that same result; Jake wins.  Things might have been different if Knoxville had happened.  But, it didn't.

So very sad. Godspeed Jesse Phibbs.

http://www.indystar.com/article/20101006/SPORTS01/10060369/Cycle-racer-dies-from-fairgrounds-injuries

We were at the Indy Mile and my wife took a picture of the Pro Singles race #1 grid in which Jesse was on the outside front row. We lost two great young racers that weekend  Sad

the rarity of serious injuries and deaths in Flattrack makes each one a bit more painful . . . . .

godspeed, and thinking of the family.

I didn't go this year staying at the campgrounds recounting finally seeing the speedway racing at the Marion County Fairgrounds after it being rained out the first 2 years. Like the sorrow of Peter Lenz I missed this as well only finding out now. Godspeed. Rest in peace.

Later this month former racer Ted Edwards will become the first motorcycle racer to be inducted into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame (he is already in the AMA HoF). A few months ago my Dad & I attended the annual Lakewood Reunion which is held at the GRHoF each year. Lakewood Speedway was a mile dirt track that existed in Atlanta from the early 1900's until the late 1970's and hosted open wheeled, stock car and motorcycle racing during this time. I only attended one stock car race there as Dad wasn't into bikes but he attended many races there. They had some nice old flat track bikes there and several flat track riders that ran at Lakewood were there. Below link takes you to some pictures from that event:
http://georgiaracinghistory.com/2010/08/13/racers-of-all-kinds-gather-at-lakewood-reunion/

Not sure how many on here are familiar with Ted Edwards but he was apparently quite popular in his day. He owned an Indian dealership in Atlanta and not only rode in but also promoted some races at Lakewood. Below link (see page #2) talks about his career. Just thought some on here might be interested to know about this:

Jake Johnson won at AZ and with that gets the twins #1 plate.... Way to go JJ! Also Brad Baker in his first pro start gets 16th and earns a natl # for 2011! Baker and JD Beach are guys to watch next year. Kopp finished 6 seconds back in 6th on the Duc and second in points. A great season.
