I see no reason to have a separate twins and singles champ at all Bomber. They should be combined since they are the same racers on dirt track bikes anyway. But since they keep separate scores for twins then Mees is #1 by 14 pts. But JJ was best overall. Maybe they think that there will be some year where the twins champ will not ride in the 450 class. Too many #1s.

I agree entirely -- I am put in mind of a conversation with a buddy who is deeply involved in NHRA Drag Racing -- he felt it was the most exciting sport on the planet, and couldn't figure out why spectators didn't flock to it like a NASCAR race on Free Star N Bars Flag Day .. . .

we watched the Nationals (one of 4 that year) and I pointed out that if you weren't already one of the initiates who'd been bathed in the blood of the lamb, there seems to be three classes:

- slingshots and their derivatives
- funny cars
- street-legal-ish cars

And yet, there were 143 trophies awarded at the end of the day . . . .

He still loves drag racing, but he understand why it is difficult for the casual fan to grok.

Saw some video of AMA Superbike champ Josh Hayes and World SuperSport champ Chaz Davies getting some practice laps at Perris Raceway in Socal. I think Jake Zemke was there, too. Davies posted on Twitter that it was the most fun he'd had on a motorcycle in a long time. Flat track rules!

At the fairgrounds.  They have a 7-10 day horse program during the county fair.

Sad news from the Illinois Motorcycle Dealers Association.

Posted by the IMDA on the Flat Track Forum: "This year it is more important than ever to attend the Springfield races. Because of the difficult economic times and the high cost of holding these races, this will be the last year for the Short Track and TT races. Perhaps in the future when times get better and there is more demand to see the singles races, they can return but for 2013 they will not be on the schedule. This has been a very difficult decision for the Illinois Motorcycle Dealers Association (IMDA) who started the extra events in 2000 when the new Multi-Purpose facility was built at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Jay Hall, president of the IMDA said, “We regret that we have been forced to make this decision but in order to keep our association going we have to do this, at least for now. We take great pride in what we have been able to do for this sport but for 2013 we will focus on mile races which is the most historic and why Springfield is so well known.”

I can see how this must have been very frustrating for the IMDA.  It's the day before the Mile races and the town is full of motorcycles.  Very few hotel rooms are available.  The taverns around the fairground are packed...

And, there's a nighttime race (either TT or short track) going on with the stands only 1/3rd full.  The same people who will fill the stands on Sunday won't bother with the singles on Saturday.  In any event, I'll be there.

Last year it was a hurricane on the east coast. This year it'll be Kuwait'stan. I'll be back.

I was told by someone at Indy that the Springfield Mile was the best and I couldn't miss it, they were right

Very sad, and I can only imagine the frustration of the folks that work so hard to prepare the tracks (they do a great job, btw) . . . .

I look forward to seeing any and all STNers at the races!

This news about the Springfield TT& ST is really a bummer. Of course this also means no amateur racing on Friday nite also as there will be no track to race on.....and there are the future racers in the sport right there.

Speed channel?  They will probably put a Napcar truck qualification on just before the A Main....  Turn off the sound so you don't have to listen to that Shaheen guy blather too.

One would think that it would behoove the Springfield Cof Commerce just to buy up the remainder of the unsold tickets just to keep those Springfield motels, hotels, bars and restaurants full on Friday and Sat nites during the races. It will radically alter the way I go to that race for sure. Only 1 nite of motels instead of 2. 3 meals there instead of 7 X thousands of spectators. This is what made Springfield a great bargain, especially with high fuel prices. This is a huge mistake and will also hurt attendance from out-of-staters at the Mile. Can't blame IMDA. They have to at least break even.

I doubt if many will notice the lack of the TT and Short Track -- most come down for the weekend in any event -- it's gotten a bit Daytona like, in that many folks don't even both buying tickets to the races, but hang out in the parking lots . . . .

sad, though . . . . in some ways, the Saturday night events were better to watch (specially for newcomers) than the Mile.

Lloyd Brothers will have a stable of properly set up bikes for different tracks, they've got one of the best riders, they've come close in the past, and I'm thinking it might happen at Springfield this year.
