I wonder if we could start a meme on the Harley threads that June is "check your leather chaps month," conveniently coinciding with Gay Pride month.

Funny.
When I first started riding and didn't know any better I walked into a HD store to buy a helmet that only HD carried.
After I asked if he had that helmet the salesman replied; "You're in the wrong store son"

I wonder how much of a decline HD would see in helmet sales if every state with a helmet law suddenly repealed it?

This is valid. For the same reason that Osha inspectors would start examining hardhats when I was pipelining in my youth. They have a lifespan on the materials, and the shell compromises over time (5yrs is the rule, correct?). Hardhat's are marked with their date of manufacture, and are only good for 3 yrs (IIRC). If your hardhat was too old on the jobsite, it was a fine from Osha. Same went for outfits selling hardhats, if they were too old, they were fined for selling defective items (that were brand new off the shelf).

Well, what you think is irrelevant unless you have been thru "Motorclothes" training. I hear the MSF will soon offer this as an adjunct to the BRC.

Actually, it's kind of part of Riders' Edge; from what I hear, it's actually a pretty good introduction into riding gear and is focused on actual safety items and not just HD bling. How can that be a bad thing?

Funny.
My helmet is almost 6 years old, now, if I recall correctly. 5?
When I did the BRC through a harley store, I will say they told me NOT to buy a Harley. "you like to lean too much; you'd be happier with something else. I've never said that before."
I really don't lean that much; I still have chicken strips. I still find it funny that, at the end of class, when they're talking about "which H-D fits you", I was told "No H-D fits [me]"
They're instruction on safety and gear was pretty good - that diagram showing that 2/3 of head impacts in motorcycle accidents would NOT be protected by the typical half helmet was discussed... the other people in the class cared not one bit about that and liked they're half helmets.

Although, my local H-D dealer does carry several types of full face helmet.
All adorned with an H-D decal of some type, mind you, but full face nonetheless. I've also seen more H-D folks wearing fullface helmets...up to about 5% but better than it was.

Shouldn't that be "Check your plastic-toy-hat-puddin'-bowl-with-lame-juvenile-stickers on it since real men don't brush their teeth either month"?
The morons that thud around on Harley Ferguson's where I live don't have a friggin' clue what asphalt can do to your face and head.
Many people in this small county (100K residents) have died due to the heard mentality HD continues to foist on the retail customers that buy that garbage.
ATGATT for me. It only took one incident with a Springer Spaniel to realize what quality headgear can protect you from. And a real leather jacket with armor.

You know those goofy looking half helmets aren't much, but at least there's some protection. But as soon as it gets nice and hot out (around here anyway), and they get together in a pack, off come the helmets and on go the do-rags!

Helmets and other gear are mostly for people who cannot ride. If you keep your bike upright there is little need for anything more than eye protection and shoes.

If you don't know how to blink you shouldn't be operating a motor vehicle at all, so why do you need eye protection?!?
