As of today the Russell Hwy (348) in GA is still closed.  You can go around the warning sign, but there is a cop waiting for all who do take the chance.

A fellow Motorcycle Sport Touring Association (MSTA) decided to go around the barrier on the Richard Russell this past weekend at our Helen GA rally, cost him $125 and he dropped his bike while getting the ticket. Not a good day for him.

I talked to a couple on Sunday at the store on 19 just down from Turners Corner.  They told me it was open all the way on Saturday, but the GSP had roadblocks at both ends checking license and insurance and both ends had a gaggle of cars pulled over for some violation. there were set up just around a curve so you didn't see them when you got on the hwy.

We rode it on June 9, 2010. It is open and fine. There is some new pavement also. No signs. No problems.

That is great to read, as it was stated it wasn't clear how long it would be shut down for road work.  They work fast in that area  Smile

Rode it Friday and Sunday. All work is done. Both times I went up and down without getting stuck behind a car.
