MI Cache tag
«
on:
May 11, 2010, 09:53:06 AM »
I'd like to introduce "Pus" (note, not "puss" as in "pussy cat", but "pus" as in the stuff that oozes from an infection):
Pus the road kill cat.
I had him for a few years and thought it'd be puurfect for our needs. He's in a ziplock bag with a note in there about the game and leaving it alone.
The point of this tag is to put him in a secure location and document your spot well. No one wants to spend 10 minutes digging through brush or junk to find him!
Finally, take a picture of your location, note it via a good phototag or GPS coordinates, and post it up.
The idea is that this can allow for tags in rural locations or along good roads where there is no other signifying landmark. The cache (we'll start with Pus until he gets stolen or lost) is the tag. If he's not there you've been bruced, or he's been stolen. If he's stolen it's your job to find a new cache item!
This is where Pus is located currently:
Pus is hiding under the electrical box

I might not be explaining it well. For example, maybe there's a nice, scenic road near your place. I actually have one of these in mind. My intent, should I get Pus, would be to drive down said road, take a picture of the intersection of a couple roads there (or GPS coordinates), photo the location (like a big dead tree where I hide Pus) then leave him. The next guy finds the location (via google earth or GPS), takes a copy of the picture (or remembers what the tree looks like), then goes out there and gets Pus. He then repeats.
Really just a variation of standard photo-tag using a mascot. Obviously, as some mentioned, this limits locations- Tiger's Stadium, for example, may not have a good place to hide Pus. A deserted country road, however, might be ideal.
Does that explain it?

I've been to Tiger Stadium.
It is an excellent place to hide Pus.

What rock do you guys live under?
Tiger Stadium doesn't exist anymore. The last standing section...the Home Plate section that Ernie Harwell was trying to save got demo'd last September.
It is a vacant field now.

"Comerica Park". In my head it will always be Tiger Stadium, and the voice will always be Ernie Harwell.

lol, yep that's about it. If you check out the IL/WI game thread it will give you an idea. They use places as the tag though.
They haven't used just GPS lat/longs by themselves, but I think it is a cool idea.
Sort of like geo-cashing on motorcycles.

Cool game Clay. I hope I can get in to it soon.
Just to be clear, where you hide your pussy, I mean pus, is to be revealed and not a hard to googlevestigate, no hint, somewhere obscure location. Right?

Right. Shouldn't be a hard google vestigation at all. I plan to use GPS coordinates when applicable.

Okay...pus is co-located with the phototag game still so I can't post coordinates.
Pus is in the shrub under the red arrow in the second pic. If you draw an imaginary line from the tree to the nose of the train, pus is in the shrub along that line.

Update: The phototag has been gotten, but pus is still in this location.
The coordinates are
N42.29208', W83.74687'
Pus is in the shrub as previously described. I put some leaves over the bag, but it is not completely covered.
