This is one of the "trails" Doug decided to explore:
But it was so overgrown even Doug declined:

Before we could rejoin civilization, however, we were confronted by an angry local "herbal" farmer:
Doug, having experience in such matters, handily beat him down then showed him who's who:

Rejected indeed. After going up the overgrown road a bit further, I started to see young saplings with more mature trees and underbrush in the near distance.
Scratch was a difficult bugger to photo. He always ran from the camera. I think he's wanted in a few states.

I didn't take nearly the number of pictures this trip as I might normally. Not sure why; just wasn't feeling the shutterbug love this time. I was having too much fun riding and socializing. I certainly didn't want to break up the great riding on Tuesday's group ride by making lots of pic stops. That's A-OK by me. That was a fun ride, especially the return trip when everyone sorted out where they wanted to be in the pack.
Wednesday I went for a 2-up ride with the wife, mellow pace, doing some touristy and sight-seeing stuff.
Wednesday's trip to the Greenbank NRAO. What's a trip to that place without the requisite alien pic?
You're no longer permitted to take digital cameras down into the site so I snapped this one from the observation area.
Thursday morning I got up very early and took a spirited ride over 219 to Marlinton and back.
My destination... those fog-shrouded mountains.
Twisties on a sport naked... yum!
219 is a beautiful road with sections of roller-coaster banked turns, these flat twisties (even though they're going up hill as a group), sweepers, beautiful scenic farm land... a little bit of everything.
Good group of mild twisties for polishing form and making sure your head is in the game
Took a break in Marlinton.
A cup of morning tea at The Greenbrier Grille (formerly The River Place) in Marlinton.
The return ride to Lewisburg from Marlinton. Stopped to snap an historical pic.

I think the common theme to this years Nationals was " I came, I rode, I barely took any pictures." Here are a few random shots from my journey.
HappyRiding assaulting the lower portion of Route 26 leaving PA
A hazy day at Town Hill Overlook on MD's scenic 40
Chili taking a break

Highland Scenic Highway
I finally made it to the top of the state after crashing trying to get there last year.
One last photo of note. Take notice of the fact that even with the Guzzi's 20 inch seat height Chris still can't touch the ground.

I'm stuffing all my photos on my website rather then slowing down the load time on this thread even more.
http://www.cookieshouse.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=15550
My brother's (malbojah) are there too.
http://www.cookieshouse.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=15720
I took a bunch as we trailered out of town this morning, but I'm not sure how the highway speeds and the fog will alter the final product.
I'm STILL working on all the photo organizing, labeling, and uploading. Not bad considering I sat on my camera and had to get a replacement one Tuesday afternoon. Thank goodness Walmart was right there. Did you know there are no Best Buys in West Virginia? Trivia for ya...

I finally got around to putting my pictures up. Here are a few choice ones (I should have my webpage up tonight for those who want more)
Covered bridge on River Road, just across the river from Milford, NJ
White's Ferry near Leeburg, VA
Wardensville Turnpike
Greenbrier River trail
Turn right
across here... (I chickened out)
Woodrow Rd, north of Marlinton
More Woodrow Rd
Riding through Watogo State Park (east of 219)
Somewhere around here I have a photo of R Doug doing his famous "water crossing"...

keep the pics coming. It's neat to see some of the same areas I covered from a different perspective.
After looking at DD's larger image of the Greenbier crossing, I am very much regretting not taking a closer look at it. That crossing looks harmless.

Next time, right? And in all honesty, you had some good reasons not to try. However, I can't say that I wasn't torn when I saw the sign for the Greenbrier River Trail from 219 when heading home on Thursday

Totally off the topic. I'm calling Bullshit. Hey, the guy with the orange Futura started it. Italian hotties should never be covered in that many bugs. I needed to decrease friction. I was afraid I wouldn't be seen by the cagers with all the dirt. Hey, at least I didn't pussy out on an challenges thrown at me. Oh and ... and... uhm..
fuck. I got nothing...

I'll back you up, Chris. Italian bikes are too beautiful to remain bugged up or in my case trashed from rain and lime from the quarry we passed. Somebody commented You must ride a lot when it was dirty, and I try to keep up on it.
Was nice to meet everyone with like interests and speeds on the twisties.

Barristas Cafe in New Martinsville WV. Cool little pub with out door beer garden and fantastic brick oven pizza's. Back yard is the OH river.
Note that this place is NOT OPEN on Sundays! Norwegian Blue and I rode here for lunch one Sunday (from northern virginia), only to find it shuttered. Ended up finding another diner down the road, but man! What a dump of a town!

Agreed, New Martinsville is a dump. Barista's is probably the only thing worth going there for. Also, pizza's are only made friday and saturday from 5pm - 9pm.

Good to know for the future.
Towns like that depress me, their heydays having long since passed them by.
