I've only seen bikes on the road for a few days, they are all still covered in salt.

Sympathies to the family.  We may never know but you have to wonder what the outcome would have been had he been wearing a helmet.

Don't read it then.  For some of us, it's a nice reminder to never take this sport / hobby lightly.  And who knows, one of these times it could be someone we know.

Yes and for me it's a reminder to stay off the bike at that time of night.
Single vehicle accident after midnight leads me to believe the rider may have been intoxicated.  I know it's making some unfair assumptions but it's the first thing I think when I hear of an incident such as this.
I try to stay off the bike late at night because even if I haven't been drinking I believe that a majority of the drivers on the road at that time have been.

I agree with R. Doug. I hate to see tragedy like this and the loss to his family, but it does serve as a reminder and keeps things in perspective for me. Very sad news.

Agreed - even if it isn't a majority of drivers; the chances of encountering a drunk driver are much great IMO.

It seems almost too obvious to say, but that is a bad combination.

I've ridden through the winter but I'm still not up to par. I think it is a good reminder to take it easy until we know the road are clean and our skills are refreshed.

Tragic,

Hopefully someone will read about this and think twice about NOT wearing a helmet...at least for a little while.

Not to sound unduly cruel, but I thought the same thing. Then i wondered what his blood alcohol level was.

I am always amazed at the amount of Pennsylvanians who choose to ride without a helmet.  I would never ride anywhere without at least a half helmet, I just feel like something is missing.  I'll step down from the soap box now.

I work in New Castle, and my receptionist's husband is in the Fire Dept.  He was not intoxicated, but supposedly he was travelling over 100+ mph when he wrecked.

That's pushing the upper limit of the Shadow, both in speed and in handling. I have an '06. I'll use 'silly' instead of 'stupid' out of respect for the dead. At night. Unhelmeted. (sigh)
