Tiger 1050 guys were alllll over these when they first came out -- Gen 1 versions leaked a great deal of water (seemingly around the rivets) . . . . . so much that the company began shipping waterprood liners with each case . . . .

Later versions were greatly improved, close to, if not actually at, the water proof state . . . . .

Are you sure you aren't confusing these with the Trax boxes since that's the issue they had and there's no rivets in the Trekker cases?  Wink

I kinda thought the Trekkers came out to compete with / replace the Trax cases because of QA issues like that, no?

this is my hammer. my dad gave it to me. he got it from his dad who got it from his before him. it's been in the family for generations. we've had to replace the handle a few times and the head twice but it priceless because of its family history.

Out of curiosity I did a google search and, sure enough, there seem to be more than a couple reports of leaking Trekkers.  Thumbsdown

Boooo. Sad

Sorry, man. On the Tiger, I'd think some E360s on the side would be ok, no? Or maybe look around for some used Jesse's brand? Maybe make some custom racks for some BMW cases? Or get some Hepcos on the used market? Choices abound.

I'm still thinking about it.  I have a ~$800 budget for some cases and racks.  Ideally I'd like them before I leave on a trip next Thursday AM, but that is seeming to be not likely.  The Triumph ones are in my budget but back ordered and not shipping until next Wednesday.  I like that the OEM's are keyed to the bike, but the racks are apparently permanent.  SW-Motech racks are costly but remove easily.  Might just get a waterproof roll pack and topcase adapter, and forget about the sidecases for now.

I've re-found the love for easily removed, soft luggage. I still *prefer* hard cases, but if they leak, screw it. Not worth the money. I had major issues with a certain, very famous and torquey Italian bike's cases that, for $800, should have been completely waterproof but leaked like sieves.

Also, if you come up with some cases you want to use and racks aren't readily available, plan on coming down one evening. We'll head over to the garage and see what we can do about making some.  Thumbsup

Thanks for that offer.  Kriega is also on the table - waterproof, soft, and with compression straps.  I like the hard cases for being lockable, but with the SW-M racks I'd need an ugly keyed connector on the support arm to lock the cases to the bike.

We've got a pair of Ortleib soft panniers . . . . ez on, ez off, light, and are waterproof to the point they can act as personal flotation devices.

I went out to the parking lot to check, just to make sure I didn't fubar up THIS post, and, yep, Ortliebs, Ok.

Is it just me but I have Givi Trekkers as panniers as they suggest they can be used for but the handles fill with water when it rains and pours into the box when opened. I have asked them and they agree it happens but say I need to take them off and pour the water out before opening them !!! is it me or is that crazy

You're right, that's pretty inconvenient and I bet it was a rude surprise to have it happen.  Thanks for the heads up.  Is that your only complaint?  Do you otherwise like them?  Thanks.
