OK Folks,

Here's the deal....I am looking to change jobs in the near future, and there is a big likelihood that a new job would be located in downtown Chicago. I have no interest in driving my car, so I was wondering if I could use the train in Winter and the bike in Summer. A big deciding factor on this is the parking situation in downtown; are there lots of places and do they cut a price break for motorcycles, or is it still the highway robbery that it is for cars..?? What say ye..??

TIA....

No price break for bikes. Lots of spots and parking lots. But, I'm an ass I just park at firehouses and do away w/ any hassles. Lol Where are you looking to live, specifically?

Thanks for the speedy reply  Thumbsup

No price break for bikes....that's not exactly much of a enticement to use a bike and save gas and help congestion now is it.... Lol

Guess I was used to commuting in SF, where I could park for cheap in bike parking spots on the street. At the cost of parking, there's not saving over the train....and that's without taking wear and tear on the bike into account.

When I was still commuting to downtown Chicago (2005), the flat lots would usually give a break to bikes, roughly half the cost of a car (my fav lot was $13 for a car $6 for a bike) and they'd let you park it near the front where they could keep an eye on it.  The flat lots are a dying breed as the lots are being bought up and replaced with more buildings.  The inside lots (multi-story) don't give bikes a break and most of them are automated these days, take a ticket going in, pay the ticket in the lobby at the machine before going out, so there is no way to differentiate what you're driving/riding anyway.  Good luck, I hope you find a way to make your cycle commute work out for you.

There is a break for bikes, but you have to look for it. The parking garages that are automated or run by the big companies never give any kind of break. I found a smaller place run by a company but one particular guy is there everyday.
$6 all day. I think cars are $12 or $14 at the same place.
Any idea where you are going to be located downtown?

Do not use the bike racks, that is a $50.00 fee fine.

Don't ask how I know.... Lol
