Now Chris, You know I have to call you out on the date. The DATE has not been Decided - it has simply been unilaterally approved by a voting populace of one.
The traditional date of WCRM for the past SEVEN events has been the weekend after Memorial Day. You should just accept that is a good day for this event to happen...and consider adjusting YOUR schedule to be a part of.
PS: for location, I vote for the Return to Chester.

No the date is June 10-11th. It is that date so those of us who want to do both the WCRM and the National can do it with the least amount of vacation used as possible.
What has to be accepted is that the date has already been determined and that's that.
As to location...Chester works for me. I went there at the end of June this year and had lunch at the Mexican restraunt. Still good.

Six of those have been washouts too, it's time for a new date. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.
I like the sound of "Return to Chester"

And for 7 years the weather has been crap. I couldn't make the last one because it snowed the whole way down the Rockies. THe one 2 years ago,.... I wore out an electric vest.
I'm with Chris on this one, as we'd love to ride the West Coast south, catch the WCRM and make it to Custer.

While having WCRM the weekend before the National sounds like a 2 for 1 opportunity, its a long ride in a short period from any Northern California location and when I look at a map all I see is a whole lot of freeway between California and Custer.

Going from Chester to Custer won't be too bad. It'll be about the same as going from Kennewick to Custer. Heck if you feel like it just ride back to Kennewick from Chester and then head over. It's only a longish day from Chester to Kennewick.
Me personally I'm not sure the route I'm taking from Chester to Custer. I do have a reasonable idea about my route back.

I want to go to Custer but making a big detour to Chester the weekend before seems like a waste of time. Kennewick to Chester is about 600 miles for me and the last 350 are straight and boring. Chester to Custer is about 1240 miles by the shortest route and its all freeway or straight 2 lane across eastern Wyoming...and any detours to some good roads are going to add a lot of distance and time. Kennewick to Custer can be a fun ride, I have a half dozen different routes that have great roads and scenery.
Everyone has a different situation depending on where they live but I would think the even California riders that want to go to Custer would prefer to skip Chester and take the extra time to be able to make detours and make the Custer trip more enjoyable.
If the majority wants to have WCRM the weekend before Custer than I would either move the location closer to Custer (maybe the Boise area) or move the WCRM forward at least a day to give more time to get to Custer.

You must be doing it wrong because when I went to Chester a couple of years ago this was not the case. I also came back via Yakima to Redmond and my total milage was 650miles. So I'm not sure how its 600 miles from Kennewick.
I'm not going to have the WCRM in Boise...it leaves out 2/3rds of the West Coast.
You have 3 days to get to the National from Chester. Then 4-5 days to make it back home. Choose what you want to do and go with it. Don't just sit there and complain.

Ok so I looked at Bing maps.
Looks like it is just shy of 600 miles to Kennewick. I found the last part which was called boring and straight to be lots of fun. Guess it was the company I was in.
For Chester to Redmond it was 699 miles via Yakima. I guess time does heal all wounds cause I recall it being shorter.

Don't sit there and complain??? Boy, that's the pot calling the kettle black!
I was not complaining, just stating that having WCRM in California the weekend before the National will result a lot of freeway riding to make it to Custer in time for the Tuesday night dinner. I agree that the WCRM date needs to changed, I question whether trying to combine WCRM and the National is such a great idea. I wasn't aware that you had been designated the WCRM decision maker since you haven't attended in years, but if so then you can have your WCRM any where and any time you want; maybe this year you will actually show up...and the rest of us can decide what we want to do.

I haven't gone for the past two years. Why? Well usually because it falls on a race weekend for me. Also why would I want to go to a meet where it just rains?
For next year I decided to take the bull by the horns and drive the meet. I've spoken to many locals and they are all in agreement...move it and make it joined with the National (many locals equal 2 including myself).
Also I'm not sure why you think you'd have to do alot of freeway to get there in time and why you think you'd need to do any more freeway than you are going to have to do anyhow.

I have to agree that having someone drive the meet is better than the lame duck, no one in charge, decision by poll (and non-attendees) method that has been used in past years and if you have the support of one local than you have an overwhelming majority of 2 ...at least for the moment.
Chester, or any other site in California the weekend before Custer just doesn't work for me. Yes, I can make Custer from Chester by Tuesday evening, I could probably make Custer Monday night, but it would not be a fun ride and if I detour into Idaho or Colorado seeking better roads, both the distance and time greatly increases and then I am looking at some very long days to make Custer by Tuesday evening.
In contrast, if I leave from Kennewick, I am looking at Lolo Pass, Chief Joseph battlefield, Virginia City, Yellowstone Park, and Cody before I hit the 90 mile freeway stretch at Buffalo. Obviously, everyone's situation is different but I would prefer to do WCRM the previous week, go home, and then ride to Custer.
My vote is WCRM on June 3-4, and any location works for those dates. Hopefully, it will not be snowing (again) on 36 at that time of year.

I've been to all of the WCRMs (I think). There has been good and bad weather but good roads are fairly near. Weather will be better everywhere in mid June, but the roads near Chester are nothing to shout about, in my opinion.
If getting away from the coast is the issue, how about the Shasta area - good roads nearby and away from coastal fog. Nearer to Dakota too.
