Did I miss it in the owners manual but I didn't see a listing for a valve check under the maintenance chart....

Page 6-3 (page 59 of 106 of the PDF)

It is listed at checks every 24,000 miles.  Which makes it the longest valve check interval listing of all adventure bikes.

CTRL-F  Smile

The long valve check interval, plus the shaft drive, will be strong reasons for riders to consider the Super-Tennie.  At least, that's how I see it.

BMW GS - listed valve checks are 4x more frequent.
Stelvio - see GS
Tiger - twice as frequent
Multistrada - almost twice as frequent
Strom - see MTS

Yup, some of the reasons I'm seriously considering one, but I'll be damned if I'm going to put my money down without at least being able to sit on one first.

Well you figure they will have one at the upcoming bike shows.  IIRC delivery isn't until next May anyway - 8 months away - so you probably have some time to wait unless you want to be the first on the STN block to have one (in which case I would hate you).

The only review I glanced at on this bike vs the GS was that the GS was a better value since it come loaded with items you cant get on the S-Tenere for about the same price. The S-Tenere is closer to $20k in Europe I guess?
Posted on: 01-09-2010, 16:43:27
I think its fair to put the Super Tenere in the same class as the GS. Its closer to the GS than the VStrom for sure. Way more of an off road bike. The price is right in my opinion. Hell if this were a Honda it would be $20k so quit your bitchen.  Lol

I think the FZ8 is awesome. Not everbody likes freaking plastic on their bikes. I am becoming more of a naked guy myself. Humm that didn't come out right.

The review you refer to I think did the euro-dollar conversion and came up with ~$20K for the S-Ten.  I'll bet the result would be different at the announced price...

I wish gambling was legal I would take bets 75% they stop shipping them here within 12 months 100% within 18 months.  They will take 5-6 years to sell the remaining inventory if they ship more than 8 or so units for the few people here that want one.  more then the 8 the general population will not understand.

The Super 10, meh , price is high, reviews are low.
The Fz8 is going to get a look however, I am looking to replace the Speed 3 which is getting long in tooth. Unlike the current Speed triple generation I could throw a set of soft bags on  it, I ride the Speed trip with nothing but a fly screen, would have liked a ABS option , but its not a deal breaker for me. Another choice to look at.  Thumbsup

They are only going to import those the are pre-ordered.  Probably why they aren't going to show up for delivery until March 2011.

Now will they make a profit with US DOT homogulation costs atop the normal sunk and per unit costs? Who knows, but I appreciate Yamaha Co. taking the chance and offering the machine to this market.

OK, I watched the whole thing.  Those 1200 are pigs in mud.  Sure you could, buy why?

Did they really need a support truck as well?  Its not like there was any challenging terrain.

Why am I so crabby today?   Bigsmile

I dunno, I like the FZ8, that's a bike I would put on any short list if/when I'm shopping.

Me, too.  Wish they brought the blue we first saw, it is a Yamaha!  Wonder if some bags will fit?

I am pretty stoked about the FZ8 coming over, I love naked sport bikes.  The Tenere looks cool if that's your thing, but I prefer the more sport oriented "sport tourer".
