I made it to Buffalo, but ran into a complication- my headlights got wierd around Cincinatti. If anyone is headed for the checkpoint in Buffalo tonight and has a spare FJR headlight (H4), I would be extremely grateful! I'm hoping to find a pair of them and a luggage strap to put around one of my side cases.

The screws that hold the locking hasp in place on one of my saddlebags rattled loose, so one saddlebag is a bit dicey.

Other than the above, all good!

I'll be in scoring around 7:30 tonight bearing flip flops, blue shorts, and a dark blue t-shirt.

I can't say anything about the rally, but it's been great so far.

Hope it is not the ground junction behind the headlights. Mine got a bit wonky last week. I started this thread on FJRforum with pics. Hopefully this isnt your issue as it is a PITA to get  to. http://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=138657

I wish you had said something last night in Concord. I had everything you needed at the house only 4 miles off your route. If it were allowed by the IBA we could have fixed everything up in NH.

Another rider has dropped out.  A BMW rider got stuck in West Virgina due to transmission problems and has no other way to get to the checkpoint.

If the Triumph makes the whole rally and even one BMW broke whats that say about BMW and their drive systems  Lol

Most popular = most failures.  Ther emight well be an issue withhe design - but is also a proven winner.

How many FJR's have one the IBR so far?

Ummmm none.

Don't mean to make you defensive - just saying there is something about winning that add to credibility.

This year there are as many FJRs as Beemers  I believe it was 16 Beemers and 16 FJRs in the field.

Hell I owned a BMW R1150R but that thought was always at the back of my mind on long trips.  "Is this gonna be the trip where it craps out on me"  Lol

Kinda hard to win a rally when you are sitting in BFE with your final drive puking it guts up all over the place.  It helps to lock down a win, when there is 16 of'em on the field.  Wink

I agree that there will be more failures when you have more of a type/brand of bike but when the competitors are packing spare final drive assys (not lightweight by any means) that should tell you they are expecting the possibility of their final drive going south on them during the rally.  If BMW would admit there is somekind of problem maybe offer assitance when one fails for no apparent reason I'd consider owning one again.  Actually I'd probably own one anyway cause I did throughly enjoy my 1150R Smile

Of course there was the one FJR that puked it's FD before the rally started. Parts should be available in August, but a memeber of the FJR forum offered to trade theirs so he could compete. Can't we all just get along?
