only 6 episodes? no wonder none of the new series can build an audience! here's 2 a good first run and a renewal then.

i thought it followed the comic pretty well (differences didn't violate the original feel). the kid had the shovel but his dad didn't have his hammer. Wink

the freaking out normal people will be the focus of the story if it's like the comic. it's about the survivors; not the zombies.

I liked it too.  It's six episodes but I read on Shock Til You Drop that AMC has greenlit a second season.

That's news I am happy to hear!   Thumbsup

Dan and I caught it last night. Looks pretty good. I, too, despise the love triangle bit, but over all was pleased with the show.

Dan was talking about how stupid the guy was, going to his house and looking for his family. That's when I reminded him that he (Dan) died quickly on a Zombie survival quiz because he came looking for me  Lol

I'm the exact opposite.  6 episodes sounds great to me.  For the most part, I don't like watching series any more.  I don't like having to watch something for several seasons to get the story.  Tell me your story... now.  Not 4 years from now.  It shouldn't take several seasons to do it.  6 episodes should be plenty to be able to develop your characters and explore their personal triumphs and failures.

My thoughts on the pilot?  OK, but not great.  I like good zombie movies, which for me is about 1/4 of them at best.  This one?  I'll give it another episode or two.  I get too irritated at unexplainable stuff, like, how did our protagonist survive in a coma for a month (at least) after the apocalypse, with nobody around to change his IV bag?  He should have died 3 days or so after his IV bag ran out.  How did the zombies NOT make a meal out of him during this time?  He's the only survivor in the hospital... and he was in a coma.  Really?  In what reality is that possible?  Why did the survivors split up?  I mean, come on, it's the Z apocalypse.  Going at it alone is a suicide mission.

For me it was how simplistic and rout it was.

like, how did our protagonist survive in a coma for a month (at least) after the apocalypse, with nobody around to change his IV bag?  He should have died 3 days or so after his IV bag ran out.

Explained by the drugged sequence with dirtbag buddy/co-worker. And by how he drank the water out of the faucet.  It worked for "28 days later" and "Resident Evil 2" why not reuse the same thing here?

Quote
How did the zombies NOT make a meal out of him during this time?

There was a gurney blocking his doorway, Zs aren't smart enough to move it out of the way.

Because that's what people do in horror movies.

This I disagree with.  Surviving the Z Apocalypse is about being silent and invisible to the z's.  The best way to do that is by yourself.  Hole up and make noise and you are screwed, no matter how many people you have.

A large group would be a bad idea, but a group of 3 or 4, I think, would stand a better chance than a lone ranger.

Why do you think?  I'm curious.  One person would find a hidey-hole and be safe.  What's your thought?

When surrounded, and the chips are down, one of those three or four will invariably turn on the others and live by the "you don't have to be faster than the zombies - just faster than the other guys" creedo.

Maybe it depends on the type of zombies.  In Left 4 Dead, the zombies are fast and attack in hoards, sometime from multiple directions.  One person has no chance of supressing a hoard solo.  At the least, you'd need two, positioned back to back, to handle the attack from both sides.  Resident Evil zombies are a bit slower, and the hero works alone, but I still think it would be better to have a partner.  In real life, you have to go find food (video game heros don' t need food), and go find supplies (gasoline, first aid, plywood, etc).  I think you'd have a much better chance of survival if these supply missions were done in small groups.  One person stands guard while one (or more) goes into an abandoned store and gathers and loads the truck/SUV.  It's hard to fight off the Z's with your hands full.

That's when I'd put a bullet in his head.  He would then become the slowest of the group.  IMO, you don't stand a chance unless you have a group that's willing sacrifice for the group.  A "Me first, screw everyone else" attitude would just result in everyone dying.

Small groups of 4-6 pers with some self-discipline and a basic plan would be best.

Such a group can still move on foot relatively quietly (small enough to rely on hand signals) and all can fit in most vehicles (i.e. mid-sized or larger SUVs, 1/2 ton pick-up, even a mini-van if need be).

That size a group also gives you enough pers to have a couple stand watch as sentries while others sleep depending on your locale & immediate threat levels, or maintain perimeter security while foraging.  Also provides a crew-sized group should the plan involve setting sail on a 30-40' sailing vessel, or comparable motor vessel.

Ideally the group would have a mix of skills (i.e. at least one with medical training of some sort, another with mechanical abilities, one with knowledge of small unit tactics & weapons, if someone knows how to fly, even better).

Moving along faster than the comic book. Leaving out certain things. Adding (a very few) changes. In the comic the protagonist only meets up with the kid when he hits the city (not all those others in the department store). I like that Brandi Svenning's dad gets left behind (Mall Rats). He always plays an A.H.

Agreed, but humans tend to gather together in large groups...

We weren't too keen on last night's episode. Sort of dry and too many cliche people introduced. Can't people just be people without having to be That Person From The Cast List???
