While I didn't mind the engine on the RT my wife and I rented last summer, a little more poke in the 'go' department wouldn't be a bad thing on a bike as big as the RT.  What I didn't care for was the transmission on the RT.  The handling was great for a bike its size.  If the Triumph can match the weight and handling of the RT, with a slicker transmission and a gutsier motor, it'll have another bike in the win column.

I've heard the RT transmission can be a little clunky. Never rode an RT so I can't say.

My 1150 was not as smooth as my Trumpets, but better than my Ural or Uly.

I've ridden the new Tiger Explorer with that 1200cc triple - let me tell you this ain't no BMW Boxer motor!  I loved loved loved that new motor!  Very smooth, tons of grunt down low and a big top-end hit.  Not Connie14 territory for ultimate power, but it will leave the RT in the dust.

The new Trophy weighs less than a Concours 14 ??  I'm surprised and suddenly have a bit more interest in this new Triumph.

The RT's tranny is loud and sounds like it's broken, but it's very smooth at the lever and gets the job done just fine.

Do we have any insider pricing estimates?

I kinda jones'd for an RT,  but felt the engine was lacking...  so, then i started jones'ing for a GT, & am still saving...

BUT,  for that triple 1200,   if the price is about right...  might be the one.

I'm with you there.  I've had my Sprint for more than 5 years now and every once in a while, I think it might be time to look for a new bike.  But... every time, I also think that I don't see anything out there that I like as much as my Sprint.  This new Trophy is a bit bigger but the wife is talking about wanting to ride with me so it would be a great fit.

I too have been jonesing for a BMW RT.  While the bike isn't a rocket like some of the others (Concors 14, FJR, K13/1600 GT), I love the boxer motor for touring and riding "the pace."  I have more than a year before I pull the trigger on anything and the Trophy is on my list.  My concerns are it's weight and wheelbase.  At 596 lbs dry (-66 lbs for fluids) and 132 HP, it's not going to feel like it has much more get-up-and-go to the RT (514 lbs wet and 110 HP).  And, with a wheelbase of 60.7", it should feel more nimble than my K1200S but not as nimble as a Concors14 (59.8") or the BMW Rt (58.4").  While wheelbase isn't everything, I have noticed a correlation between agility and wheelbase on the bikes I've owned or ridden.

I'm all over the board right now, but I can't wait to see and test ride the Trophy.  The same dealer nearest me which carries Triumph also carries Ducati.  I might as well test a Multistrada 1200S.  It'll most likely cost more than the Triumph (my guess $17,000 for the Trophy), but I need to test ride the Duc too.   Bigsmile

Don't worry, a Norge is on my list.  But, the closest dealer is a day's ride away.   Sad
