I would not call it a mandatory thing. one of the control riders from omaha was riding aroudn on an early model SV with not all that stuff and he was wicked fast.

on stock suspension - spring and valves?  well, that would be well above my talent - I rode stock 2004, it was squatting and rocking at every corner, but I am on a heavy side.

The deal is that after we decide the date, I have to give a deposit by March.  so as every year we will be collecting money during winter for people that can commit.

Thanks for the information.  I talked with Breadman a few weeks back, and based on the fact that I fly every other week and can't know my schedule that far in advance, I won't be able to sign up in advance

I'll keep my eye on this thread in case any last minute spots are available once I know my schedule.

No problem, this year just like last year, we will have direct registration, Motovid is waiving on deposit, all we have to do is to have more than 20 riders committed ahead of time, and we will have up to 10 spots to register as late as day before the event.

I think you'll be fine.

Not sure I'd classify my efforts as "...tearing it up..." but it was a hoot, for sure.  I went into the day with only two objective and 1 "stretch" goal.
Obj #1:  Do not hurt anybody else through my own actions on the track.
Obj #2:  Do not "bin " the ST...as it was my only bike (and my ride home, to boot!)

Stretch Goal:  Log at least 1 safe pass of another rider...I'm sure that my "passed / pass" ratio was at least 100/1 (Johnnyb got me three times in a single session, for example...) but I managed to get this done, as well.  

The F650GS would probably be equally serviceable as a track bike.  High clearance = greater lean angle potential.  Not much HP (42, according to Wiki) , though, so I'm afraid that I'll be toast should any rider (say...on a 650 Ninja w/71 hp and better top end) be looking for "payback".
