I used to buy and sell guns all the time.  Buy cheap and flip them.  To think of some of the guns that have passed through my safe.   Sad

OK went to the Armory at lunch to fondle it. It felt good!  Man I walked out of that shop in awe of what can be had for $1500 or so. They had a fully decked out M4 that was freaking SWEET. Mini Uzi, MP5, HK91-92, AK74, AK47.  Drool Drool

With the demonstation of the "bullet button" my faith in owning "assault" weapons in Kalifornia has been renewed.  Thumbsup Thumbsup Our only true limitation is no mags over 10 rounds now.

Build one.  For half that you can have a perfectly functional rifle that is as easy to build as putting together LEGO blocks.  I have yet to buy a fully assembled AR.

Build one.

I did!   Bigsmile    I put about 400 rounds through the 14+ Para Ordinance 45 that I built. I had one jam using the Wolf ammo (steel cases) which was also jamming in a Glock and a MSAR so I blame the ammo. Also had my daughter shoot the GSG and the M4. From her first magazine to the last (she put about 100 rounds through he M4) she was consistently hitting soda cans at 50 yards. Not bad for her first time shooting. Man I really dig that EOTech sight. Makes the rifle really easy to use. Now I need to order some 10 round mags for the 45 and an adjustable rear sight.

I added another 10mm to my collection recently.  As part of my protest against polymer guns, this one is all metal with the slimline Alumagrips on it.  I am tall and lanky and find a slim handgun tucks into the small of my back, disappears, and stays put.   I got into the 10mm a few years ago after wanting to reload something different after loading only bottleneck and rimmed cases.  I can carry something bigger when I'm out beating the brush, but realistically, my biggest danger out walking with the dog is meeting a POed cow moose, and stout 10mm loads would deal with that.  With all that checkered metal in the grip area, nothing will be pulling it out of my hand.

Well, I wanted to resist... but in the end, I was seduced. Could. Not. Resist!

Yea verily, the temptress laid down and spread her evil before me, and I found myself weak and backsliding, for I gave in to the temptations and siren song of Smith & Wesson!!

Could.

I'll be interested in your opinion of the moving piston system once you get some time behind the wheel.

After years of M16A1 and dealing with the direct gas impingement system, the gas piston has a strong draw for me but some have told me their dislike of them (for various reasons). Clearly I remain unconvinced and still drawn.

Gas piston, great idea in a gun designed for it. Poor execution as a conversion in most of the cases I have personally seen. After a day of heavy testing with a dozen or so AR platform rifles and a few thousand rounds of .223 the only two complete failures that occurred were the two gas piston conversions. They were two different brands, although I can not remember the names. One was in a standard 16" carbine semi auto rifle configuration and the other was in a suppressed select fire SBR with a 10.5" barrel. The SBR broke something in the bolt or bolt carrier and the carbine had some sort of failure in the piston assembly itself. Since we were product testing the owner put them up pretty quick when he realized they could not be fixed in the field quickly.

Others I have run across at the range seemed to work ok but the owners did say they were a bit of a pain to deal with or had frequent issues. I think I have run across one owner that swore his was the best thing ever built. I put a 30 round through it about as fast as I could pull the trigger and it did work just fine. I have not owned one myself and do not feel the need to get one. I just have never had a problem out of the many AR platform guns I have made or owned with the traditional gas system. A bit more cleaning but I have to do more work cleaning my rimfire stuff with it's dirty 22 ammo than I do on the AR rifles.

I think you will have to remove the rear sight to use the red dot.

Looks like it should be an absolute co-witness with the rear iron sight.

I had one of those, that holosight does co-witness. However, it's a cheap piece of crap. Don't expect it to hold zero, even moving the switch to change reticles the zero moved.

You can co-witness through the red-dot.

War, that is the most fun rifle in the world.  Smile  Match barell, no recoil and super accurate.. = lots of fun.

I have a laser on mine too and that makes is loads of fun.

I was going to say that's a low quality sight but I figured it'd be ok on a 22.

On the useful (tool) side of the discussion the Browning BPS 12 ga. eliminated 2 pigeons and a feral cat yesterday Bigsmile.  worked perfectly as usual.. before that a hundred rounds at the sporting clays course, probably should give it a cleaning before I put it away Wink

There was a blood letting at our camp as well. Two squirrels met their demise trying to rob the garden and chew on the pool fixtures. The Gamo Whisper pellet gun is one brutal son of a gun.  Bigok
