This sounds like it could be custom designed w/me in mind. I've vacationed in RR the last two summers and bought the bike last month w/the goal of riding it to RR in 2011 as one of the primary motivators for purchase.
I've always stayed in either a B&B or a cabin/house, but the Best Western is a very attractive property. Red River is tourist oriented and you can easily walk the whole town. I've always been there later in the summer to escape the Central Texas heat, so I'm not sure what exactly to expect in May.

How many people typically attend these events?
What pace are the rides?
So many questions.....

How's that for a first post? Cool

Question one .. I never attended a R2 meet so not sure, I'd wager a guess at 10-20 though

Question two .. I myself like to ride fast, but when I ride with others I don't know, I slow down. If I was leading a group I did not know, it would be at 10 over typically.

Anyway, this sounds like a fun ride, pretty sure I'm in Smile

I'm gonna man up and volunteer to lead some/a ride(s). My main question is; what length/time frame do most attendants want to do. For instance, I've ridden Taos/Lake City/Taos many times. It's a LONG ride requiring early ksu and getting back at the crack of sunset, but if you're game, I can lead that one. It's beautiful country if you've never been there. Here's a sample of pics I've collected over the years:

Great questions and GREAT responses from all of you. Thanks
Tradition says 20 to 30 riders attend our annual meet. In 2010 we did Kerrville, 3 sisters and such. We had a lot of comments about the Economy and competition from other Rides causing our turnout to be small. I don't think it will happen this year cause I am getting input from people who have not attended our previous functions, and from others that they have never been to Red River area and are looking forward to it because of that.

The Big Bend turnout was like stepping on an anthill. there must have been 50 or 60 Riders.
Silver City brought 25 riders, Kerrville brought 17.

I don't know if there will be competition for that weekend but I think with the Red River Venue we can overcome it.

The best thing to insure a well attended Rally is for each of us to promote it. Inviting friends and posting on other websites is the best way.

I think we can have high speed groups and sane riding groups for people to choose from. The person leading the high speed groups can leave a few minutes earlier than the others. The ones that can keep up will go ahead and the ones that can't will fall back into the slower group. I am currently riding with MSTA locally here in the dallas-FT Worth area and they are accustomed to riding faster than I, but I am learning to stay up and I am becoming a better rider.
It would be nice to have some maps posted on this thread.

By the way Kneescrubber , are those pics of the Red River area?

Thanks for the info, and I'll work on putting some ride maps together as well - there are many great roads in the area. I'd volunteer to lead a fast group as well, if anyone is interested. Can put together a nice loop with some serious canyon carving Smile

Ok, how did someone do it? I searched far and long for the way to convert a thread to post on top , first in the queue, with the sticky pin in it? Evidently the webmaster does it, or whom? How does he know which to do it to?

I am doubtful for this year but you never know. This might be more mileage than I want to do in a 3 day weekend.

I'll keep watching this thread.

I've printed out the vacation request form and penciled in Thursday the 12th through Tuesday the 17th. It's 12 pretty hard hours from my house in a car w/minimal stops. I figure ride to Amarillo (or further) that Thursday, motel it, start out early Friday fresh for the mountains. Check in is probably 3 or so.
As of now I'd leave RR Monday AM with a similar schedule back, depending on how I feel.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I'm going to Red River on a motorcycle next year....might as well be this event. It's probably better than July and August when I usually go. I just hope I'm not going to be in over my head.
If I am, oh well, I'll ride by myself and enjoy every damn minute of it. Wink

Mr. Monster, my initial reaction is that I want to attend this event as well. I have another long-time riding buddy who may want to go as well if his k12rs is up to it. I'll keep an eye on this thread and as time gets closer I'll contact you, maybe we can ride out together or something.
