For all the fun we have poking, well, fun, at the silly and at the absurd on Craigslist there are some real finds that pop up and one of them may be just the thing that someone has been searching for. I think that sharing of the rare gems might be a good thing.

For instance, I found this today on the local:

Wow, yeah, not many survivors in that crowd. Good on him for keeping it in nice shape.

Still needs work, but it's a great starting point, if Turbos are your thing.

Absolutely they are collectible and fun. I had two of the ZX750E's and tinkered with them for several years. We need a modern factory turbo on a small engine.

I wish I could post up the ad for my '98 ST2 but the seller deleted it. It started at 4 grand, a week later it went to $3500. 5 days later the seller dropped it to $3k "this weekend only" and I went and picked up my new "ST light". 10k miles, big 12k service done with new belts and tires, Ducati topcase and a few other extras. Sold my ST1100 2 days later for the same amount - gotta love CL.

Every once in a while, Craigslist will have a really decent deal. I bought my Moto Guzzi off of a Craigslist ad, and it was priced at least as well or better than eBay listings on similar Eldorados.

I wish I could figure out a way to search all of Craigslist, regardless of location. It always steers me to Buffalo, so I haven't found a way to do a nationwide search.

Yeah, they were that fast. In 1982 Cycle tested the v65 magna and pulled a 10.92 quarter - I beleive it set a record. That's still pretty damn quick, only 1 second slower than the fastest bikes of today.

Heck, that's probably faster than I could get the Busa down the 1/4 mile. And yeah, even pro's will only get very high 9's from the Busa or 14 without strapping and lowering. So a 10.92 1/4 on a bike from 1982 is damn impressive

Well, that was with PeeWee Gleason riding - little tiny guy that was pretty much a pro rider testing for Cycle mag. Noone could equal his times back then. I remember him hitting 10.55 on a 900 Ninja in I think 1985 (showing my age here), which was just a ridiculous run for that time.

Bursting another bubble I guess but no, not that fast. The one I had did around 135~140 indicated. Pretty fast off the line though. The trouble with them was the same trouble with any Honda V4 and that was melting Regulator/rectifier connections, for some reason Honda could not figure out how to make a charging system that worked on the V4's and also flat fours. 1200 engined GoldWings were also notorious for melting stators and reg/rec's.

The early Sabre and Magna also had cam oiling issues and lower end bearing knocks and transmission problems and were ridiculously spendy to repair. Fun as a pillow case full of puppies when they ran though, just don't expect to put a lot of miles on one. A shame really because the Sabre was a comfy and halfway decent handling bike for it's time and an excellent straight line performer. I finally sold mine for an '87 ZX100R Ninja and didn't look back.

My last bike was a 1985 Sabre 1100.  Great bikes, bought it w/70k on it, put another 10k on it and sold it still running strong (but looking bad, I bought it for $700 due to cosmetics).  The early bikes mostly had the oiling issues.  They really did accelerate that fast, but the top end was due to the extremely tall gearing.  One magazine published an article that they were geared for 170 or so.  From there it got turned into that being the actual top speed.  I think over at sabmag forums it's 140ish as the general consensus.  Still impressive performance for a standard introduced in the early 1980's.

Agree. I had my V65 Sabre for five years. It was incredibly quick and actually handled very well for its 590-lb weight and steel frame of the old-school days. As a naked bike, wind resistance limited actual top speed to around 145 despite the very long gearing in 6th. In fact, both 5th and 6th gears are overdrives. In a day of backroads touring I would get around 44 mpg and averaged 40 mpg overall unless I was trying to run fast. It helped that I installed a Givi windshield that smoothed the airflow over the rider very effectively. I think the fully-faired Sabres are faster top-end (and the full Hondaline fairing looks great) and more fuel efficient but how often do we get a chance to test top speed on our motorcycles in America today?

I installed the Dave Dodge oil modification on mine and it allowed me to drive as gently as a commuter car without oiling issues. I didn't learn about MOSFET rectifiers until after I'd sold it, but they seem to be the answer to all charging problems these days.

Nearly mint 1990 bmw k1 with almost 20,000 miles. 1000cc, New battery, ABS brakes, heated grips, plenty of plugs for heated clothing, heated shields, etc.

Was my friends grandpas motorcycle, it has been sitting in a basement since 1998 when he passed away, his grand mother is now in a nursing home and they are cleaning out the house and asked me to sell for them.

I may take care of that one for you - if it's clean enough.

Lookin' tomorrow.

Nice!  Let us know how it goes!  It certainly looks the part...  I called the guy and he said 40k on the clock.  Good luck!  Let me know if I can render assistance.   Bigok

Well, not my kind'a bike.

44.5K, barely ran on starting fluid.
Paint is crap.
Seat is ultra-crap.
Bike is very very weathered.  (all the black plastics are grey)
It's in pieces with the seller saying, "I can put it back together easy for ya!"
It hasn't ran in months, and has been sitting outside for a long long long time.

While standing there I tried to spin the rear wheel with my shoe, and damn.... something seems bound-up.  Bearings too tight, or ???.

Might be an okay parts bike?  That is - if 1983 Interceptor hard-parts are in demand.
