I'm going to take on the task of getting a room and menu for the big dinner.

Based on last year I suppose the per head cost should stay to under $20.

I'm asking for any menu suggestions and/or things to absolutely avoid....also drawing on what we had at the 2010 rally.

My menu idea would stick to fairly basic ideas....

Salad - something more than just plain lettuce, but nothing too fancy.
Meat entree - Avoid pork (tends to be dry when served for large groups).  Beef might be ideal.  Chicken tends to be done to death.  Could be a casserole or lasagna as done in 2010.
Veggies - Something simple works best, don't need anything too fancy.
Dinner rolls - Would people be okay with multi-grain or are we a white bread only crowd?
Dessert - I think at least 2 options are needed or the place could just have an assortment.
Canned drinks - soft drinks.

I'd like the place to allow BYOB for those who want something with alcohol since I don't expect them to included alcoholic drinks as part of their quoted price.

I would like my filet mignon medium rare, with black caviar, and mashed potatoes made with real truffle oil.  But I can also eat at McDonalds.

Sadly, they are closed for the season.  The restaurant is open only on Fridays and Saturdays, so I have to wait until then to talk to someone.  I hope to get an e-mail exchange going on this with them as I really need to track things in writing.  It's so easy to flub stuff up when you just talk on the phone.

After many tries...okay 2 tries....I got hold of the restaurant.  I should lock down what time should dinner be planned for?

I figure either 6 or 7 pm.  Can't imagine people waiting longer than that to sit down and eat.

6:30 sounds good. Gives people time to finish up their ride and clean up, but not too late to allow them to start meandering off  Wink

Okay, got the stuff on the Bavarian Inn today.

I'm going to do separate threads for each item I need input on.

We'll do the buffet style because it's easier (and just $1 more per person than a sit-down meal).

Highest ranking choices will prevail.  You can change your choices on this poll if you change your mind.

THE OPTIONS:
  • ROULADEN - Thinly sliced top round steak rolled and stuffed with onion, bacon, mustard and dill pickle.  Browned and slow-collked for hours for maximum tenderness.  Served with Spatzles (homemade German noodle dumplings) and red sweet & sour cabbage.
  • STOGANOFF - Lean sirloin chunks slow cooked for tenderness, in a delightful sour cream and mushroom sauce.  Served over Spatzles with red sweet & sour cabbage.
  • SLOW COOKED HERB PORK LOIN ROAST - Slow roasted and seasoned just right, very tender and juicy.  Served with a light brown pork gravy.  (BI suggests homemade mashed potatoes as a side dish).
  • SLOW COOKED ROAST BEEF - Slowly cooked, seasoned to perfection, served with real roast beef gravy.  (BI suggests homemade mashed potatoes as a side dish).
  • HONEY BAKED HAM - Black forest style, slowly cooked in a honey sauce for maximum flavor.  (BI suggests homemade mashed potatoes and pork gravy as a side dish).
  • HAWAIIAN KALUA PIG ROAST - Slowly cooked for 24 hours in ono (good) Hawaiian seasoning.  (BI suggests Hawaiian fried rice and tropical fruit salad as side dishes).

Dinner rolls with butter is included.
