This year's B.U.T.T. ride was a blessed with awesome riders, from Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Indiana which is 1400 miles away from the Texas Big Bend Ranch State Park (BBRSP)! My wife and I trucked our bikes from Austin, arriving Dec 28th and departing Jan. 2nd.  The weather could not have been better, the frosty mornings were quickly followed by afternoons in the 60s and 70s.

The beanie brigade, thanks for being such good sports!

We proved that any sized bike will do, we had everything between 250cc to 1000cc and I am sure the fun factor was equal for all.

My wife Sahara and I started with a small easy loop of the main park road as a warm up for the next few days.

Thursday morning I chose Los Alamos, Jackson Pens and Paso al Solitario to gauge my wife's comfort and skill level for the tougher sections of the park that would come in the next few days.

She handled going around the Solitario really well! We completed about 46 miles, then I spent the afternoon with Portero72.

They were not too willing to leave their water, on our way back to the bunk house.

Portero72 and I did the Javelin loop in an hour and a half, I got  to ride my wife's DRZ 400!

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/ninaudp/2010_12_BUTT_PA/2010_12_BUTT_013.jpg

My sister in-law and nephew were great company too!

Thumpergirl, took on the park with a new Honda 250.

My brother DoctorDR - the beanie master-mind!
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/ninaudp/2010_12_BUTT_PA/2010_12_BUTT_016.jpg

Friday we headed towards Quale Trailhead via Javlin.
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/ninaudp/2010_12_BUTT_PA/2010_12_BUTT_017.jpg

The 4 WD road was was unmaintained, which is the roughest type in the park. Very rocky, off-camber lots of loos sand crossings!

Sahara and Portero72 were a great team!
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/ninaudp/2010_12_BUTT_PA/2010_12_BUTT_022.jpg

Sahara was getting tested more and more on Javelin. The entire trail was difficult, no smooth stretches involved.
This was taken at the end of a long uphill curving climb!

Dave from Indiana shows us how clean this technical climb!

This is my favorite action shot. Mark from Indiana could make his KLR sing!

The ride to Guale Traihead continues...

I am glad you are enjoying the report! It was the most intense environment I have ever ridden the KLR in, we were totally wasted each evening, every single muscle was sore and we felt dopey!
The riding was so fantastic that it was depressing to load the bikes into the truck when we left. I did not want to go home.
Then I reminded myself that none of us were injured, the weather was perfect, and the scenery breath-taking.
Time to stop being greedy about the riding, the BBRSP will be here long after I am gone... plenty of time to come back!

Here we are at the Guale trailhead, it was a tough ride to get here, very rocky, twisty and lots of climbing.

Mark from Indiana, taking in the view from Guale, the best in all of the BBRSP!

This canyon is the crown-jewel of Texas, Mexico is in the background.

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/ninaudp/2010_12_BUTT_PA/2010_12_BUTT_036.jpg

Saturday morning we head towards the least developed part of the park. Cienega Mountain.
IZZ and his crew were the first motorcycles to ever enter this portion of the park!
We hoped to see their tracks!
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/ninaudp/2010_12_BUTT_PA/2010_12_BUTT_037.jpg

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/ninaudp/2010_12_BUTT_PA/2010_12_BUTT_039.jpg

Having exited the main park road, we head towards Cienega, we will have a hard time, because we traversed
a sandy washed out gully that we mistook for a portion of the road leading to our crossing of the Alamito River.

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/ninaudp/2010_12_BUTT_PA/2010_12_BUTT_042.jpg

Having found the road again, we cross the river. At this point we are very tired, navigation is difficult, even with
GPS, tracks and maps. The area has only recently been traveled by a park ranger on a burro. There are no signs, no wheel tracks, nothing!
You are on your own and it is scary how easily you could be lost and screwed!
