I am new to this group. My 2 cents worth is..... I really like the looks of the first gen of FJR's. I am 5'7" and I have sat on a 2012 FJR, it was a bit tall in the seat for me. The FJ1200 that I currently own has a lower seat hight that fits me better.

If a FJR were lighter, it would be a GSX1250SA.

I recently picked up a Ninja 1000. It reminds me a lot of my FJR only about 130lbs lighter. Very comfortable riding position. Seat needs help, but so does the stock seat on an FJR.

I would like to see a ST machine in the 650cc-750cc range. Why? Because for one up STing I really do not need the power and speed of a 1300 class machine. I want something like this - http://www.cfmoto-us.com/onroad/details.aspx?productId=32 - from a major manufacturer. Heck, I would even consider that one if the support was there. A Trophy 800 would be really nice!  Bigsmile

The answer is NO, because it wouldn't be an FJR.  The FJR is an FJR with all the good and bad attributes that come with the name.  Like it, don't like, that is YOUR decision.  You "can" go touring on an R1, Gold Wing, or even a moped but most "rational" people would say the FJR is a pretty good "sport" tourer, as is!  Then again, how many people on this or just about any other sport touring forum leave their bikes stone cold stock?  Most of us would take a 150lb lighter FJR and pack 200lbs of crap on it.  Soooooo, IMO this post was just a bit of trolling to stir some pretty useless comments (I'm sure it is entertaining to some readers).

By the way I traded my excellent 06 FJR for a 1050 Tiger because it was about 150lbs lighter.  I toured on both.

This is my first post. I am a Sport-Touring.net virgin. My man meat is also probably bigger than yours.  Twofinger
The Yamaha FJR 1300™ is probably the world's best motorcycle. If you disagree, you may have rabies or suffer from some as yet undiscovered STD. Cool
My first FJR was a Gen I, 2004 model, purchased with only 2500 miles on it. I put an additional 43K miles in 3 yrs, 6 months, and sold it. I bought a 2008 Gen II FJR with the proceeds. I am a genius. I proceeded to put 88K trouble free miles on it in 4 yrs, 1 month, and just last month, on Jan 12th, I traded it against a shiny new Gen III 2013 FJR 1300. As of today, Feb 26, I have 3K miles on it.  So far, so good.
I also have a 2004 Suzuki Wee Strom, and consider it to be the 2nd best motorcycle in the world. If you disagree, see above for the diagnosis. My 3rd bike in the stable is a Suzuki GSX 650F, almost a mini FJR. Having said that, it's really too light for serious sport touring duty, in my not so humble opinion. Twofinger

You're in the wrong place for the former, but definitely the right place for the latter. Lol

The FJR is an excellent touring bike, almost on par with the GL 1800. Smile

Where the hell is County? Should someone check with his Mom and see if he's decaying at the keyboard in her basement?

Jay,
I AM going to disappoint you.  I agree with all your pics and ranking FOR YOU!  If County or me or anyone else doesn't like your choice, f'em.  I think I clearly stated in a previous post my position on the original question.  I would like to say that the Gen III has to be classified as one of best sport tourers on the market although I would be calling Cogent or Traxxion to upgrade the suspension.  As far as I'm concerned no ST bike comes with an adequate suspension for industrial size people (anyone over 175 lbs).

Honda NT700V, if you can find one.  I have 39,000 miles on mine in two years.  I am medium mileage compared to some.
