Bad Luck

I am in the process of moving back to Sydney from Darwin and am planning to ride my FJR1300 back via Mt Isa, Charleville and Dubbo on the 5th April. So I did all the right things the 40k service (major) and put two new Bridgestone tyres on for the trip. On a short run to Darwin Dam at the weekend I had a bit of welding rod that was lying on the road go through the rear tyre completely destroying it! It had just been scrubbed in.......Bugger! $300 later.
Fortunately I was only 500m from the dealer but the hole was so bit putting a couple of CO2 canisters into it to make the dealer's workshop made little impact. Wobbling along the side of the Stuart Hwy at 10kph with Road Trains going past less than a metre away is no fun.

Welcome and yes that really is bad luck. However, in my experience you are lucky if the tyre deflates slowly. What tyres are you running on the FJR?

The rear is a Bridgestones Sport/Touring Battleaxe forget the numbers. Chose a Bridgstone for the front cos they have more groves for water distribution than the Dunlop 220 I had on before. Seemed a good idea during the 'wet' up here. Cannot give you any reports on them cos I only just scrubbed the rear in when I picked up the rod. Tyre pressure........I'm running 36/42. Slightly high cos I'm a big bloke and sometimes run high speeds.
