I admit it.  I don't wave.

Yeah, if I'm out in midwinter riding and there is another loner braving the wintry weather I'll nod or wave.

But man is waving a pain in the butt or what?

Yesterday was the first really gorgeous spring day here.  I did my usual got up and commuted to Church.  It was a nice quiet ride to church.  A couple of early risers (we have an early service and the church I preach at is an hour away) on bikes and that was it.

The trip home - if I waved at everyone I saw my left hand would have never touched the grip.

So, you can think I'm a jerk, or brand elitist.  You can think whatever you want.  I don't care.  I will not be waving at you unless I know you.

We'll get the annual rants here about not waving, but to head them off a little:

If your enjoyment of your ride depends upon someone else waving at you, then you need to get another hobby.

I ride all year long, hot, cold, dry, wet. Whatever.  Usually its a novelty to see another rider in the States for most of the year, hence the wave to acknowledge another motorcyclist.

But only up 'til about 1 wave per minute. After than I'll nod or do the couple of fingers over the clutch. But at something where riders congregate like Daytona or a AMA race. Naw...

You will notice that riders do not wave to each other in Europe or etc. where bikes are more a common form of transportation than a hobby.

there is a point when there are too many riders to wave at, but you can't tell me a man riding to and from church isnt looking for some fellowship, those riders that you dont know yet, well, you never know when you might meet one and know them, and thats all started with a wave.  heck, I waved at a guy on an R6 the other day (I wave at everyone) not knowing who it was, turns out it was an old highschool buddy that I hadent seen in years, he saw me in a store later and said "hey, that was YOU on the street!" and now he's got my number to go riding some time.  taking my hand off the grip REALLY isnt that hard.

way to go bro with the no waving thing, bet you dont pump the keg after your beer either.....

I have stopped for every stranded (real or just appeared stranded) biker I have ever seen.  Last Sunday alone I doubled back over two miles to check on a biker stopped on the highway.

I will wave if I have a sense of camaraderie, but to wave at every biker on a gorgeous day when everyone that has a garage queen decides to ride.  No thanks.

You know, it doesn't take any effort to unwrap your left fingers, keeping the hand on the bar, and give a wiggle.  That and a nod is what I do when the roads are clogged with fair-weather riders and I'm tired of waving.  Don't be a misanthrope.

OOOO we do in the UK, we used to wave and if we saw a biker on the road side we would stop see if we could help all very frendly.

Yeah cause sharing the riding experience by acknowledging another rider sucks.. You should get a jacket with a big patch that says "I ride alone".  Screw all us stupid "friendly" riders.. Yeah!!!

Anything on two wheels is good enough for a wave from me.  Heck, I even wave to kids on scooters.  I admit to sometimes not waving when you pass a parade of bikes that are out on a poker run or whatever.  You would have to have your left hand off of the bars for a long time.

Oh come on now.  This is half tongue in cheek and I think more than obviously so.

There are times when waving to the tremendous herds does get ridiculous.  My commute to my little country church is a big motorcycle road.  It is a nice semi twisty road up to Linville Gorge in the mountains of NC.  We had 82 degree weather and I must have passed at least 200 bikes in my 50+ mile commute.

I personally think the wave thing is ridiculous.  Others like it.  I had a little fun in my rant against it, and we will see plenty of rants here over the traditional riding season about the HD rider or BMW rider that did not wave.
