I doubt that.

Geting off the bike and confronting the hillbilly in the PU is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen

Redneck/hillbillies usually are drunk/high on meth/nothing to loose or all of the above and this dope wants to get off the bike and confront him   Withstupid

I thought the vid was going to end with a shooting.

Latest info from the interweb.....  (not that I believe it YET)  And YES....  We have our fair share of rednecks down here Bash

"The pickup driver was arrested for reckless driving, DUI and the DA is using the video to consider reckless endangerment and possibly attempted murder charges. If convicted of all charges the pickup driver could get up to 24 years in jail. That's unlikely but he will likely see a felony conviction and jail time for his life threatening antics."

Source?

As far as the video, was thinking the truck might lose it, it would probably take A LOT to make an ATV fall out.  Looks like a bad day on a good road.  I can't believe that the guy (thankfully still alive) on the first bike got off his ride... that's an opportunity for the guy to hit the bike that I'd rather not give - also getting off/out of a vehicle is way too confrontational for my liking, especially if you think the guy is a psycho (that goes both ways).

When I see a video like this, it really makes me consider carrying when I ride.  Additionally - unfortunately - the shit-stain in the video is not the only redneck with a pick up truck in our fair country.  As I watch the video, I wonder to myself, "what would I do if it was my little brother that was almost run off the road (read murdered) by that simple minded yokel bastard?"  If I carried a firearm, would I use it?  Part of me thinks that even the act of pulling out a gun might not be worth the trouble (land of the free, home of the brave, and all that).  A larger part of me thinks that if Bo Duke couldn't even have the common freaking courtesy to respect the life of somebody I deeply cared for, well, I should just return the favor in kind.

Either way, if there is one thing I have learned while riding: stay the hell away from pick-ups and SUVs!

I see what you are saying.  I was contemplating the first level, visceral response.  What the motorcyclists did in the video in response to that violent act was the right thing.  On the other hand, would justice actually be served?  I do not know enough of the situation to make that call.  All I know is that the piece of trash deserves a lot more than he may actually get.  I cannot call that a, "no harm, no foul," situation.

yea, it is hard for me to really decide what to think? sure, the guy is a jerk, but atempted murder?? the consensus here is that it was OK for the bike to cross the double yellow, but not the truck, are we not all the same??? the truck drove no faster (actually slower) then the bike, the riders were as threatening to the truck driver as he was to them? I think it was a lot of stupidity on everyone's part. to me it is a case of "noharm. no foul".  as I have done in similar situations, the riders could have easily moved along and the majority of the situation been avoided? Of course just my opinion.

Some new information from the video taker......

Police are actively perusing this.  They are not interested in the double yellow pass as the truck was moving much slower than posted speed limit and pass was clean with no danger to either the rider or driver.  Truck is not registered to the driver in the video.

That's a pet peeve of mine. SNers get all riled up about left lane hogs on interstates, but the Anti-destination League assholes who poke around on roads that could be fun piss me off royally.

On the bike, I dispatch them quickly. On four wheels, it is a much more hazardous situation to pass.

The motorcyclists were stupid to cross the DY.  I understand why they did it, in most cases I probably would not have done it, and I do not condone it.  If we apply the, "no harm, no foul," psuedo-standard to that point; I would be inclined to say okay.  I would defend it in the case of the bikers because all they wanted to do was get by the large, slow moving, and hard to see around pick-up truck.  On a personal note, I have had to dodge the contents flying out of bed of a pick-up on more than one occasion.  So I inherently do not trust how well others secure their crap in a pick-up.  Again, I must reiterate that the motorcyclists should NOT passed in that manner, and instead done so legally.

That said, using your vehicle (regardless of size) as tool for punative judgement is really crossing the line into shit-head territory.  Bo-Duke could have been the bigger man, and applied NHNF to the motorcyclists.  Instead of doing the right thing, he elected to do the equivalent of pulling out a gun, and firing a few warning shots at a person he was having a verbal altercation with.  In fact, the rate at which he cut over, and as close as he got to the motorcyclists, one could argue that he actually did shoot at the hypothetical person I used as an example, and just missed.

That's why I think the pick-up truck driver should have had his ass kicked up an down the road, and then some.  When somebody attempts to murder you (yes, murder: if he had hit the biker, the "accident" excuse would not fly), then proceeds to chase your ass down the road because... because what... he didn't get you the first time...?  Yeah, I'd say returing the favor in kind is within order.  You could make an attempt to reason with a person like that, but he/she would just do it again.  Some people don't understand the concept of respect for human life, and appently have to have a begrudging understanding beaten into them.  That's why I say Bo-Duke is probably going to get a lot less than what he rightly deserves.

Not sure about he laws down there.  I know in PA the vehicle code says it is legal to pass a slow moving vehicle on a double yellow line if it's a safe pass and it's not on a stretch of road marked by a DO NOT PASS sign.

Now because the definition of a slow moving vehicle is vague take that for what it's worth.  It's doesn't say that the vehicle needs to display a slow moving vehicle triangle as is displayed on farm equipment or Amish buggies.  That's why you always check for cops before doing it.   Bigsmile

I think there is, the guy attempted to run the first rider off the road and appeared to have a weapon in hand when he got out of the truck. I would say there was probable cause to be in fear for your life. Personally I would have reported the guys license number tried to keep him there till the Fuzz showed up. I would have stayed out of arms reach of the guy, I would not display a weapon but would definitely have my hand on it in my coat pocket. Another advantage to hammerless wheelguns by the way, you can fire one from your pocket.....

I'm conflicted.

I ride a big'ol pickup... and yeah, I've been known to use it's size to my advantage.I ride a motorcycle... and yeah, I've been known to piss off cagers by using the bikes small foot print and agility to my advantage.

Haven't attempted to run anyone off the road for at least a week though....
