June 24th - 145km - to Frankfurt

GPS is packed already, so no route pic till I get home

It's time to put the fork in and call it a trip.  The bags are packed, the bike is stripped of my gear and I'm sitting in Frankfurt near the airport.  It was a good ride up from Kaiserslautern via back roads and even a ferry.  The TransAlp showed me that the mud here is damn slick when I did a little, erm, excursion.

B48 on the north side of the autobahn.  I rode the south side yesterday.

Sunflower Power!  The field was huge and I couldn't resist.   Lol

Crossing the Rhine at Rudesheim am Rhine.

In the middle of the river.  When we docked, I was first off and rode directly into a HD motorcycle rally.  http://www.magic-bike-ruedesheim.com/  A true gathering of the bretheren.

From there, I followed the river up a ways, then jumped on the go fast roads.  I got to the B&B with just enough time to get my room before they shut down for lunch.  Sitting in the room awaiting the son's arrival after work.  Any minute now.....

Tonight, the plan is to hit the real casino in town.  Nothing like Vegas or even Monte Carlo, it's probably just 50 slots and 6 tables.  My kid takes after me and loves to play blackjack.

I was just used bike shopping at the local dealer where I rented the TransAlp.  Damn, damn, damn.  I coulda bought a nice used bike for just a bit more than the rental fees.   Angry3  My son would have appreciated that.   Lol  They had a CBR1000, 1992 vintage for 1900Euro.

Customs had four folks to clear an entire two overseas flights and I had one hour for my connecting flight.  Needless to say, I'm still at O'Hare waiting to get out.  Next flight is a 7:35 that is already showing delayed 30 minutes.  I may get home today.  Been up since 4am Frankfurt time, which is 10pm here.  Yeah, I'm cranky now.

As to the TSA comment, I had the full luggage and pat down trying to get in to my missed flight.  Asswipes claimed because I had an insulated coffee mug in my carry-on that they had to check everything.  Guy asked me if I thought that was a reasonable search.  That was a bad move on his part.   Lol

Tom, if for some reason you don't make the flight you know where there is a spare bed.

Just an update on travel plans for the next one.  It'll be happening in May, 2012.  The wife decided we'll do warm and dry this fall, so it's a cruise from LA to the western shores of Mexico for 7 days.  If this overtime continues, I may sneak a week in before that.

Great write-up!  I was back in the Dolomites for the 2nd time this summer, and it's truly the best riding on earth.  Love your line about "hairpins so tight you can read your own license plate" - so true!  Lol

A very late reply, but then, I'm not on here all that often.

I'm glad you had a great time and got to experience Euro touring. I hope you get to go back for more.

I'm here and I'm NOT coming back.   Drool  Dammit, Europe is nice.

Thats for sure.

All I'll say is - this is F****** fantastic riding.

Its hard to make a believer out of riders until they've gone to ride there. The riding is so damn good that I haven't put a single kilometer/mile on my local motorcycle in two years. I get my fill every summer while on my six-week tours in Europe and the Alps that I don't miss not riding locally.

BTW, I saw your Maikammer pic. I drove through that town in the beginning of July on my ride to have lunch at Johanniskreuz on the B48 at the L499.

All the best,
