Still one of the best SPORT-tourers out there.
I've mine totally dressed up to sport tour 2-up.
Side Cases, top case, and because she wants to take it all, a Uni-go trailer.
Custom saddle, Helibars, and Buell pegs.
It sounds nice with the Jardin cans on it.
Sure is fun passing people loaded up like this.
As the Bird's age, your best investment is suspension. The origional shock is set up for a 175 lb person. Ohlins, Penske and Wilber are the most common. I've got the biggest spring they could find and especially 2-up it made a huge difference.
There's photos of the 'Bird in my photo gallery.

I have an '02. Gen Mar risers and Buell pegs open up the riding position a bit. I've got Corbin hard bags and a Throttlemeister. My extended rides are limited to 4 -5 days max. Time constraints for now preclude any trans continental riding. I am addicted to it's broad power and precise handling. (No pics on this 'puter. Will have to take some to post)

'99 XX owner here.
Wingrack and 3 Givi cases.
Peg lowering kit. VFR handlebars. (improves riding posture)
Corbin seat (doesn't do enough for pelvis IMHO).
Bike easily works well for sport touring if you find it a comfortable posture for your body.

2001, with SWM racks and Givi cases, Helibars, and Powerbronze sport-touring windscreen ,a Fenda-extenda and rear hugger to keep things clean and 18-tooth front sprocket to improve cruising fuel mileage. Next will be a power outlet and mount for the phone/GPS and bluetooth helmet communicator for hearing GPS directions and talking with my passenger. It's easy to rack up huge daily mileage on a Bird, but not so much fun puttering around town.

I like your set up Birdrunner, bike looks great. I have some nelson-riggs soft bags for now but hard bags are in the future for sure. I have Buell pegs on my bandit and will have to see if I can get another set. Thanks all for the response.

Man blackbirds look nice. I was thinking of getting a VFR for sport touring duties, but saw a blackbird at one of our bike meetups. Got me thinking....

The "Gentleman's Express" is the much bigger brother of the VFR, imo. My '02 has 168,000 touring kms. I'm about to change the TwoBros C5 titanium slip ons for a Yoshi SS full system. Plus Samco Silicone rad hoses. I'm had my bird since new. I bought it in May and rode to Toronto on July 2/02. Although I have many performance mods, suspension upgrades, bling and full Givi hard luggage, I've never opened up the motor or even changed the cam chain. The Bird does have some weeknesses; suspension needs to be dealt with after 35-50,000 kms and some earlier models have Honda electrical issues. CCTs need to be replaced fairly regularly but they are cheap and it's an easy fix. The Bird is loved world wide and has many dedicated forums in GB, Australia, USA, SA, etc. Check out
www.superblackbird.co.uk
JAWS on the Brit site is dedicated to Bird upgrades. There are two dedicated sites in the US, .com and .org. I love my BlackBird, it has never let me down, I tour exclusively, never use her to commute, and every day ride is at least 300 kms. Low milage Birds can be had for $4,000. The CBR1100XX is the best bang for your buck, imho. Perhaps I'll post some pics of my Bird soon.

Hey, did I meet you at the Reno "Hookers XX" meeting in 06 ??
I had a black one then, which got wrecked in Colorado.
Liked the XX so much I promptly snagged the next one available.
I figured at 80k I'd better have the valves checked,....
waste of money as no adjustment was needed.

The last pic is why I probably should not own a Blackbird.
Mind you, if I did, I would get some stickers for the mirrors that would read "Objects in mirror no longer matter"
