Ride for the Heart Iron Butt and "Iron Socks" (half-IB)
I rode in this event last year and earned my first IB certificate. Bill Davis and Michael Moorhouse put on a first class event to raise money for various heart disease organizations and I highly recommend it for anybody anywhere near it. I'll be doing it again this year and I'm looking for some other STN'ers that might be interested. Beautiful roads. A great cause. A day on your bike. What better excuse is there for taking a day to Ride for the Heart?
The ride starts in any of five locations and each starting point is also a check-in stop so we're all riding around in a big circle with people from other locations. Ontario, CA; San Diego, Henderson, NV; Apache Junction, AZ and Modesto, CA. Last year all the start locations / checkpoints ran the whole 24 hours and most had complimentary snacks or beverages for the riders. Several HOG chapters were our most gracious hosts and we couldn't have asked for more. And they were a healthy portion of the riders too. Good folks all of them but I've taken it upon myself to recruit some metrics to help round out the population.
This is a nicely organized ride for somebody who wants to get their first IB certificate or an IB'er that just wants to participate in a beautifully laid out tour of the back roads in southern California with nips into Nevada, Arizona and maybe Utah depending on your choice of circuit. They've organized all the checkpoints so your IB paperwork is pretty much pre-approved by the time it gets to Mr. Kneebone's group. I got my certificate in about 6 weeks.

Back by popular demand, this Spring, the Ride for the Heart Foundation will host two Iron Butt Association qualifying rides that will take in some of the best parts of Southern Nevada, Western Arizona and California. Both rides depart Saturday May 5, 2006 from one of five different locations. Check in time is 5:00 am. Currently Golden Valley H-D in Los Banos, CA, Henderson H-D in Henderson, NV, Superstition H-D in Apache Junction, TA West Truck Stop in Ontario, CA and San Diego H-D in San Diego are check-in locations. Please confirm prior to ride for specific departure locations. $85.00 pre-registration $150.00 after April 23, 2007.
