24x7 DYI 3000 Lm driving lights (was: Denali D2 LED's - anyone using these?)

Just curious if anyone is using the Denali D2 LED driving lights from Twisted Throttle? Was thinking of adding a set, and was looking for feedback first on how much usable light they actually add. I don't have a lot of excess wattage, so LEDs are my best option if they actually help. My main goal is to add more fill close in and on the sides of the road - my main HID projector throws light way down the road, but I want more side vision in deer country.

Not yet, but....
I bought a set. Just haven't had the time to install them on the baby GS. Of course, the stock headlamp on that unit is so bad that a couple of overeager fireflies nearby serve to increase downrange lighting by 62.78%....
Soon(ish)...

Well hurry up already!
Actually after some back and forth, I think I am going to wind up getting the trail tech HID's instead

I've had 5 Trail Tech HIDs . . . ( I need 2).
they work like gangbuster, while they work -- they are not fond of water, and vibrations are not their friend . . . . . customer support is great, and they will replaced failed units, seemingly forever, but if you HAVE to have two functioning lights, buy three --

Thanks - I had read similar on ADV, but I also read that recently the quality has improved a lot. It also seems the same HID's are re-branded as PIAA cross country and WARN, and sold for a lot more $$'s

fingers crossed on the quality thing -- and, yep, the WARN and PIAA offerings are a cautionary tale, indeed ;-}

Yeah, I'd take your advise and buy three if I could afford it
- I am crossing my fingers they have improved.

I've been very happy with the inexpensive LEDs I got from a vendor over on ADVRider (sanjoh, I believe) -- I got the floods, and not only are the deer on the side of the road dead by the time I get to em, they are medium rare.

You are just the person I was searching for - I was considering both options - the Trail Techs and the ADV monster LEDs. i also read the LEDs from Sanjoh were unreliable as well?
How do you like those LEDs, how much light do they put in comparison to the Trail Techs etc? Do those LEDs really help light up the road and see the critters at speed?

Apples and Oranges -- TT HID were more of a driving light, throwing light down range in a focused manner . . . . My LEDs (flood, remember) light up everydamn thing in front of the bike -- some don't like that (pavement directly in front of the bike is WHITE), but the light downrange, coupled with the broadness of the beam (my triumph has headlights that are useless around any kind of turn) means they are just what the doctor ordered for me . . . .
I've had em on for, oh, 15K miles, a many in the rain -- at this point, I was going through my third TT HID . . . .

Thanks
Just the info I have been looking for. My main issue is the wider lighting more than the long distance lighting. The headlight assy on the Hayabusa sucks, as it only has a single adjustment for both beams. So if you adjust the high beam right, the low beam is too low and useless, and if you adjust the low beam right, the high beam blinds low flying planes. When aimed correctly the HID highbeam throws light way down range with projector beam. So I think the ADV monster LED's may be what I need - that way I can adjust the high beam correctly, and use the LEDs for the wide and close work.
Now if I could just find someone who has tried the Denali D2's and Advmonster lights lol - there is a group by atm for the Denali D2's and they'd only be $279
Edit: Are you using the new controller with yours?
http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/hstrial-QualiRegResou/-strse-22/Wireless-LED-Dimmer-with/Detail.bok
And looking at the site - it appears they do not include a harness, just the leads from the light, and you need to purchase the switch and led that shows it on seperately- then supply your own fused power to the setup. With the ADV discount, everything comes to $262 shipped - can't beat that.

noo controller here, just a switch -- harnesses are easily put together, so I do . .. this kept the expense way down, for me -- I mounted the switch in a Radio Shack Project box (along with the switch for the e-flashers and garage door opener), and it's been aces (through sun, rain, sleet and a tiny bit of snow) . . . . .

Yeah, making a harness is no prob - their site just isn't very clear. Thanks again for all the info.

And I changed my mind again - found these babies below.
http://24x7diy.com/product_info.php/cPath/33/products_id/94
Cost less and even more light output. Check out the pics. Goign to grab the dimmer with high beam bypass from advmonster to use with them. Will probably only be able to run them at ~30% in traffic - then full power when the highs go on.
Edit: seems to be the same people since all the pics from the ADV thread are on 24x7diy's facebook page

I've been running the TT Denali LED's on a Triumph Tiger for over a year now (1050 Tigers have REALLY bad stock lighting)...
- Great light, 900 lumens from each LED is about what a 55w halogen headlight puts out for only 10w of power (each)
- I'm running the "fog" instead of the "driving" difuser lens - provides gread illumination in a down-road range comperable to low beams but much wider so corners are not as dark
- The LED is a brilliant white light that also helps me to be more visable day or night
Great add, zero problems, still expensive but I'd do it again.

Ordered up the following finally..
http://24x7diy.com/product_info.php/cPath/33/products_id/94
3000Lm each at 30w using Quad CREE XML T6 LEDs - 6000 Lm total - more output than 3 sets of Denali's D2's
Also ordered the controller below for them. Can brighten/dim by remote control key fob, and also has a highbeam full power trigger wire. So I can run them at 30-40% in traffic with the low beams, and full power when the highs go on
http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/hstrial-QualiRegResou/-strse-22/Waterproof-Wireless-LED-Dimmer/Detail.bok
Will be mounting up on the mirror mounts with a simple elbow bracket for cooking deer
Will post up detailed review when I get the goodies, and can snap some pics for comparison. The pics on the site are pretty good as well.

great work on the lighting, gents . . . .
although, I do find it odd that the same things we complained about when I first started riding (lights, seats, horn) are the same things we're complaining about (and with good reason) today . . ..

Got my 3000Lm LED floods and controller
The lights came pretty quick from China surprisingly. 24x7diy's was good and fast getting them out and updating the order etc. Will get some pics/review posted once I get the harness made and get them mounted. I suck at photography, but hopefully will be able to get some good pics for comparison versus my HID low/high beams.

Some teasers of the simple mountings - ignore the pile of garbage in the garage
Just used 2 stainless corner brackets to mount to the mirror bolts. Will be slitting the rubber covers so the mounts come through and look clean.
Tomorrow or Thursday will start pulling the paneling/tank off and routing the wires, relay and remote LED controller. Relay will switch on w/ ignition to power everything up. Then the controller will set the normal level and on/off via remote control RF switch (will velcro to my controls) - there is also a high beam bypass on the controller, that will jump them to max output when the highs go on
More pics coming soon!

Make sure your deer license is up to date -- you're gonna be cooking some with that setup!

- I hope so
Tested the lights today direct from the battery. WOW - these are not your Grandpa's LEDs. In the garage I could not even notice the HID high beams come on over the light of the dual 3000Lm LED's. Just waiting on a refreshment order of posi-locks, posi-twists and posi-taps to arrive and I will get the wiring all done - then get some shots outside to post.

Well I tried to get some shots outside at night, but alas I suck with photography. And I could not figure how to turn the flash off on my g/f's camera, so that skewed the pics a bit. Also, it was not very dark out as there was a near full moon and other lights on the street. But these do show a comparison to how bright these are compared to even the HID bulbs in the stock housing.
No lights (just camera flash)

The fence, tree and building in the distance are easily a football field length away I'd say. These 3000 Lumen LEDs (x2) are just crazy bright, and not just close in. The detail even at 100 yards + out is amazing, everything stands out. I've also not adjusted them properly yet outside - I will widen up the field a bit for deer spotting.
Once the wiring is done and I can ride to a darker place I'll try to get some better pics.

Final update - going over the install a bit more, and everything is fully wired and done.
I used the following lights:
http://24x7diy.com/product_info.php/cPath/33/products_id/94
With the following controller (wiring diagram on page as well):
http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/hstrial-QualiRegResou/-strse-22/Waterproof-Wireless-LED-Dimmer/Detail.bok
I mounted the lights up on my mirrors, but you can put them anywhere you want.
Lights:
For wiring I used a fused harness off the battery, connected to a relay mounted under the tank/front seat. The ran the power from the relay up to the front of the bike near the fuse box.
Power wire:
In the picture below is the wiring. The blue lead is the trigger wire for the relay tapped into the low beams. The purple wire is the full power trigger for the LED controller tapped into the high beams.
Wiring:
The controller allows the LEDs to be infinitely dimmable via the remote key fob, and jump to full power when you switch on the high beams. The other two sets of connections are the power from the battery/relay to the controller, and the output of the controller to the lights. As the wiring sizes were mismatched, I used Posi-Twist connectors.
I did not use a separate switch as the controller has a remote control which suits my needs to turn them on off or dim them.
There are some more assorted pics in the gallery URL here:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/110075660793408558748/albums/5672892959204153569
Hope this is helpful, and good luck. If you have any questions, let me know.
Got out to test ride at night with these on some dark roads and they are simply amazing. They put out more usable light than the high beam and low combined - and the light is pure white an brings out the detail. I was running them with the lows at about 30@ and did not seem to piss off any cager - switch on the high beams and they jump to full power (much quicker than the HID's, which is nice).

If anyone is interested - 24x7diy is running a sale at the moment.
http://24x7diy.com/specials.php?currency=USD
Not a bad deal on an already well priced product. No issues yet with mine.

Just a heads up - I would not recommend ebay 24x7 diy store. NO,No, No. Recieved mine - one light not working. No Refund available and good luck if you have to go through the return for repair saga. I still have the faulty one. Makes the 24x7 diy very very expensive. Dose anyone know who may be able to repair one in Brisbane?
