forget loud pipes or clutches- ATGATT Saves Lives.
Or in this case, Loud Guns Saves Lives! (when properly applied to the forest rats).

I'm convinced loud pipes do nothing but make the forest rats run out in front of you. My VFR has 47000 miles on it. It also has the stock pipe. In all those miles, I never had to make a HARD evasive maneuver to dodge a deer. Some have run out in front of me but they were way out there so I had plenty of time to slow down and make sure there weren't more coming (there usually were).
My Daytona has a Two Brothers exhaust that is louder than I would prefer. I didn't own the bike for two months before a herd of deer decided right NOW was the time to bolt across the road. And then last Saturday, I had another deer try and commit suicide via my motorcycle. I was on the Daytona then too.

Deer just are what they are. I've had to slow down while RUNNING before... like on my actual feet.
That's a sad end to an epic bike! Personally I don't know that I'd sink a ton of money into a 258k bike, tough as it is to let go....

Wow, tough loss but the important part is you are okay.
Can you use any insurance money for a down payment on a new 2011 GSXR 750?
That's a lot of miles! I would write your story up and send it to Suzuki just to see what happens.

I guess hi-viz doesn't work for animals. Dang.
Looks fixable to me. I'm pretty sure my Gixxer has taken more crashing abuse than that and I'm still riding it.

11 year old, high mileage motorcycle, that was paid off years ago. So no collision/comprehensive insurance. (only liability)
And being mostly unemployed for 2008 + 2009; I have no cash reserves at the moment.

Totally agree with the suggestion to write into Suzuki. That'd be fantastic advertising for them if they rebuilt your bike or gifted you a new one.

Ok, fair enough..... then I would consider rebuilding it as a streetfighter, sans bodywork, until the finances allow you to score some cheap-o tupperware that are likely hecho in china...

If the bike doesn't survive at least it went down after being well ridden rather than rotting away in someones backyard.
Good to hear you're ok. Backstraps, it's what's for dinner!

I put XP3 corporations' Hornet deer siren on my SV. I haven't had the opportunity to see how well it works, yet. People who written reviews give it a good recommendation. It will cost around $75 per bike, unless you come up with a quick disconnect mount. It's cheap insurance.
The hardware included does include a plug in connector. I made up my own wiring harness for the bike. I'm glad you're OK.
