Nobody's going to get lapped.  The biggest gaps so far have been about four seconds in early testing, and that's a brand new CRT vs an already developed 800.  If we imagine two seconds a lap is realistic, or even three seconds, that translates to at most 66 second difference over the course of a race.  Since no MotoGP track is short enough for a 66 second lap, the fastest will simply never catch up to the slowest.

The Hondas and Yamahas are still in development too, albeit a lot further along.  You have to figure they're going to find a second or so between now and the start of the season, which puts the gap at more like 3 seconds per lap.  Still not enough for getting lapped, more like "finishing where Elias would have been on the LCR."

I did say " based on early testing " , we have seen 4-7 sec difference so far . Of course it is gonna get closer , much closer but 1.5 - 2 seconds per lap is  probably the most optimistic scenario for CRT team in 2012 . Aprilla should get there and , maybe , BMW-Suter .

It is on thing to get one quick lap in the testing , another to do entire race distance at that pace . Factory bikes and riders can bang them lap after lap . Tire wear might be the issue for CRTs .

Let`s not forget the difference between factory allies and some of CRT riders , easily 1 second in skills alone .

In any case I`m willing to take a bat , CRT bikes will get lapped early and often in 2012 , not all of them of course .

There is that aspect of talent, that's true. CRT team cannot afford an alien's salary, nor would An alien sign with an unproven non factory team.

How many seconds per lap is that worth? At least one, maybe a few fractions more.

Commonplace back in the 70's for the 7th or 8th place rider to get lapped when you only had a few factory MV, Suzuki & Yamaha bikes running and the rest were privateers. Quite possible we'll see the slowest CRT bikes being lapped at some rounds next year...

Although I'm sure most of you already knew this, that article was the first confirmation I had seen that Bautista gets to ride the RC213V prototype for Gresini. That news makes me happy.   Bigok

Damn straight.  Alvaro was always a battler on good equipment, and those 2008 battles with Simo, Barbera (and to some extent Kallio) were bloody amazing to watch.  Is Gresini getting the same factory support in 2012 as they did this year?

Looks like it. It's the factory bike, at least. Don't know if he'll be getting the same updates as the Repsol boys.
