Sena SMH10 + iPhone 4 used for music and GPS. Does it work?

Looking for real world usage stories. Planning a big ride this summer and I'd like to get a bluetooth com system for me and the wife (pillion) and at least so far the SMH10 seems to be the better device for this. What I am hoping to find out is if I can pair the SMH10 to my iPhone and stream music but also use it simultaneously as my GPS device, I have the Navigon app for GPS. I assume that this is all possible?

Since the only thing the Sena does is transit the audio from your device. In this case your iphone. You get whatever the phone spits out audio wise. It should work fine.

Of course, you'll need a GPS app that speaks the directions. I still cannot comprehend why the included Google Maps app lacks that - and so many other - otherwise standard feature.

You can also pair the SENA with a GPS. They have a handy chart right here:

Not at the same time, unless Apple has recently added the ability for the iPhone to only pair as headset and leave the audio to the GPS.

If you can't it's a Apple issue. The Sena does allow for multi-pairing.

I run the same set up. iPhone 4, SMH10 and the Navigon app. It works fine.
In fact, it works better then it does when I'm not listening to music. It can take the BT connection a second to kick in for each voice prompt causing the beginning to get clipped off. If you're listening to music, the connection is already active. The audio dips, you get the GPS's voice prompt and all is well.

I did end up getting the Sena, works great. In fact I'm upset I waited so long to get it because riding with non-earbud music is great, in helmet tunes is the best! Now that Sena released v4.0 firmware the SMH10 seems to be working even better, I especially like the lady telling me that my phone and media are connected. The only issue I have is that at speed with earplugs in I can't get the volume loud enough to overcome the wind and plugs together. I have the earbud mount so I think that on my trip this summer I'll be switching to that then going back to the helmet speakers for daily riding.

That's because it's running on an Apple product. Google Maps/Navigation on Android is great.

I'll respectfully disagree with that, on both a Xoom tablet running ICS as well as a Samsung Galaxy S 2 I had nothing but bad experiences with Google Maps/Navi. As with most Google products it's still in beta and that shows. While it's certainly better than Google Maps on an iPhone and free to boot there are much better products, personally I use Navigon, than Google's Navi on the iPhone.

I've got it set up with my Garmin 765t to give me directions and use the phone button to access Siri on the iphone
