Yes'm, that's the plan -- my twin-son-of-a-different-mother will come on up from Tejas -- given our advanced age and the fact that our dirt experience predates the present century, I'll liekly take a month.


As for peers, and slumming, I am told I have no peers (no one sinks quite THAT low), and, while this bike is a bit ratty, to truly slum it, it woulda been a couple of the other bikes I looked at, and passed -- JBWeld is good stuff, but globs of it on the frame?

Congrats on the KLR. If you're not racing in the woods or doing jumps it should make you a very happy camper. BTW, The weight that everyone complains about it for dirt riding is your friend on the highway.

    2. The ST bike will sit in the garage and gather dust while the KLR will become bike of choice.

   After I got ADV bikes I rediscovered their versatility and the fun factor of finding out where those dirt roads went that I used to pass by. Great purchase Bomber and NEVER wash a KLR other than the spot that you want to work on.

   PS... Sorry, but I never liked your Pooly suspension. I opt for RaceTech.

As for abandoning the Tiger, I don't see that happening -- it's a great bike for back road strafing, and the ability to go from 50 to 90 instantly . . . .as much fun as I suspect Jerry Lee will be, it won't scratch that particuar itch ;-}

Exactly why I went with the 990. while it's off road capabilities are far from a 250 ish dirtbike it works fariley well for something that can also cruise comfortably at 80mph all day on the highway. AS someone on ADV pointed out: "it does everything second best, but it does everything"

   When you do get out West with it sometime Bomber you will like the bigger engine and that big gastank. Just what you need for extended BLM road/jeep trail riding out there. I would suggest some real BarkBusters and handguards on it though. Breaking off a clutch lever 30 miles out into the desert is no fun at all. Also a good skid plate for ROCKS. That thing should have great range with that tank on it.

While I agree with your purist approach, at 6'2" and 240lbs. a 250 is not a long travel bike for me

I'm planning on the F650GS as my ride...if you don't have something suitable in the remuda, we'll just have to steal something from Ed...or Jeff...or ???

I'm not opposed to hauling the bikes over the Rockies and back...might even think about swapping the duties on / off, to reduce the pain of "days lost on the slab" by sharing same.

That would be SO awesome- and a XR650L should do.    I just don't think I can take the time next summer.

  Moab in the summer is not smart flatlanders. It is about 105 degrees there then! Think Autumn instead.

  As far as "single track" there goes, you will need a trials bike for that out there. It is not like WI or MI single track in any way. Solid ROCKS to ride over. Better keep to the graded stuff and the "easy" class Jeep trails with big traillies.


 Any year a group of you would like to get out of winter and come to New Mexico to ride I am there every winter and would be glad to show you a whole new world of riding. Just endless miles of twisty gravel roads up/down.
