Yes'm, that's the plan -- my twin-son-of-a-different-mother will come on up from Tejas -- given our advanced age and the fact that our dirt experience predates the present century, I'll liekly take a month.

As for peers, and slumming, I am told I have no peers (no one sinks quite THAT low), and, while this bike is a bit ratty, to truly slum it, it woulda been a couple of the other bikes I looked at, and passed -- JBWeld is good stuff, but globs of it on the frame?

I have the distribution rights for Pooly Suspension in the Upper Midwest -- ya want some, ya gotta deal with me!

2 things I suspect will happen now....

    1. Bomber will now begin to frequent ADVRider all the time.

    2. The ST bike will sit in the garage and gather dust while the KLR will become bike of choice.

After I got ADV bikes I rediscovered their versatility and the fun factor of finding out where those dirt roads went that I used to pass by. Great purchase Bomber and NEVER wash a KLR other than the spot that you want to work on.

PS... Sorry, but I never liked your Pooly suspension. I opt for RaceTech.

OK, this right here is simply outfreakinstanding!

A sign for the judas door of the Laboratorio d'entropíadel Norte would be aces, as well!

As for abandoning the Tiger, I don't see that happening -- it's a great bike for back road strafing, and the ability to go from 50 to 90 instantly . . . .as much fun as I suspect Jerry Lee will be, it won't scratch that particuar itch ;-}

Looks markedly different from our R4 northwoods camping excursions from 2010 and 2011...

We had lots more trees....and water.

Less dirt road...but that which we did have was somewhat unexpected  Crazy.

And we had beer.

The idea of riding a lightweight 250-ish dirt bike on the roads of the southwest is SO beguiling. Inlove Unfortunately I still have to get from Wisconsin to Utah, and the thought of doing so via 250-ish dirt bike is not as attractive.  Lol

Exactly why I went with the 990. while it's off road capabilities are far from a 250 ish dirtbike it works fariley well for something that can also cruise comfortably at 80mph all day on the highway. AS someone on ADV pointed out: "it does everything second best, but it does everything"

Zactly!

Jerry Lee Lewis = Killer = KLR

Bread -- you are in such big trouble, if I remember this the next time I see you!

Gal -- I chose the KLR for exactly that reason -- big enough to get me to decent trails, small enough for me to pick up.

Mags -- huh?

When you do get out West with it sometime Bomber you will like the bigger engine and that big gastank. Just what you need for extended BLM road/jeep trail riding out there. I would suggest some real BarkBusters and handguards on it though. Breaking off a clutch lever 30 miles out into the desert is no fun at all. Also a good skid plate for ROCKS. That thing should have great range with that tank on it.

Which is why I went with a 250 street bike. Different gearing means I still go fast enough to make long travel possible, still small and light enough to be fun off road. Wanna talk price difference?  Bigsmile

The formula is the definition of entropy.

The second law of thermodynamics, which leads to one of my favorite Bill Bryson quotes of all time - "There are four Laws.  The third of them, the Second Law, was recognized first; the first, the Zeroth Law, was formulated last; the First Law was second; the Third Law might not even be a law in the same sense as the others." He also mentions the popular explanation of the four laws as "You must play, You can't win, you can't break even, and you can't get out of the game."

Clearly, I am reading too much.

HELL yeah -- I can commit for two bikes!

@Cheddar-- OHYeah! Gotta find a/come up with $$ for two-fiddy before then....

 Burr Trail!!

I'm planning on the F650GS as my ride...if you don't have something suitable in the remuda, we'll just have to steal something from Ed...or Jeff...or ???

And so it begins...

First...a date needs to be proposed / discussed / agreed,

Then...a destination or two.
I'm not opposed to hauling the bikes over the Rockies and back...might even think about swapping the duties on / off, to reduce the pain of "days lost on the slab" by sharing same.
>Drive / Ride / Fly for one... Fly / Ride / Drive for another.
>One "could" ride the Tiger / SV / ST while trailering the dirt munchers, too, if so inclined.

I'm not a rider with lots of single track / hard core off-road experience...so my (personal) riding will be mostly unpaved / fire trail type stuff...but that doesn't mean that others can't look for bigger hills to climb / fall off of.

Let's pick this up post-New Years....

Moab in the summer is not smart flatlanders. It is about 105 degrees there then! Think Autumn instead.

As far as "single track" there goes, you will need a trials bike for that out there. It is not like WI or MI single track in any way. Solid ROCKS to ride over. Better keep to the graded stuff and the "easy" class Jeep trails with big traillies.

Willing to bet my beavertail trailer could accomodate 4 such bikes...if an "R4 Invades Moab..." outing were to be in the works for 2012.  Trailer out past the (not so) Great Plains and take on the twisties / dirties with the thumpers....

Anybody interested?

I'm already planning "Westward Ho!! Redux"

We'll see ya if you're out that way between June 29 to July 13.

Tinking it'll be late summer earliest... maybe after Labor Day, for that matter.  But that's a discussion for after the Holidays....

Hey, you play the hand you're dealt, yes?

Got out for about an hour yesterday, and the bike is a hoot!

Tires, though. Tires, like NOW!

What kinda project you got going there.  I saw a photo of an X1 that someone did into a cafe racer that would be cool.

It's an M2 with parts from a number of models -- it'll just be a Sunday scoot to scare myself with, not shotting for any particular genre . . . . the bike is the poster child for "Mission Creep." It started as a top end job, and, at last count, the gearbox was about the only thing not taken apart . . . .

Then, out of consideration to you two, I'll not get them -- if I did, the cool would immediately move on to something else, and you'd have to replace yours . . .

You are most welcome!
