My neighbor is a CHP motor officer and will soon be getting a C-14.. He said they accelerate alot faster than the BMW's but because of a issue with stability the CHP version has a speed restrictor set at 125 mph..
To be fair that's not because the bike itself is unstable, but because over 125mph the short sleeve shirts and donut bellies result in a harmonic 'misbalance'.

I was being tongue-in-cheekish, but unfortunately, there is no tongue in cheek icon available
I wuz trying to troll for C-14 riders, but it appears that my aim wuz way off
You mean I spent 15 minutes writing that response for nothing?
It didn't help my mood that you posted the ugliest possible iteration of the Guzzi police bike.
A CHP Eldorado in black & white was a pretty hot looking setup. Way better than the KZ1000 police bike.

I didn't think anyone took my pontificating seriously. I go on about Ducati labeled man purses, but don't mention that I have a '78 Darmah back home

The earliest CHiPs episodes used Guzzi Calis.
But that was made up for later by Clint Eastwood using Guzzis in Magnum Force.

There may have been a couple in the background, but I doubt it. The pilot episode came out in 1977 and they were always sponsored by Kawasaki. If you spot a scene where there's a Cali, I'd love to see it, though.

Wait, now you're being serious again.
The Darmah is a nice looking bike, but reminds me of a CB750 with a v-twin engine stuck in the frame. When my dad bought his Eldorado, the dealer also sold Norton, Triumph (I think) and Ducati. As a four-year-old, my favorite bikes were the Nortons, because I liked the lettering on the tank.

Apparently they were used on stills, promos and one opening sequence, but then replaced by the Kawis.
Word on the street had it that Guzzi yanked their support for the show because they were worried the exposure would result in a flood of orders. And no one back in Mandelo del Lario was willing to either:
1/ Work a 5 day week
or
b/ give up the 3 hour lunch break to make it happen.

I need you to find me a still that used a Moto Guzzi. I believe you're misinformed. When I was a kid, I was a fanatic of that show and never saw one... and I was in a house with a Guzzi in the garage, so I would have noticed.
In addition, the last year of a Guzzi CHP bike was 1975, two years before the show debuted. A V1000 would have been cool, but didn't happen. If you can find a photo of CHiP's (the TV show) with a Guzzi in it, I'll eat my words, but I contend none exist.

as a c14 owner and former leo, i can say that the c14 is an excellent platform on which to base a police bike. the ones that i have seen (in print, not in person yet) have some tweeks to make them more suited for the job. some have adjustable handlbars, altered saddle bags, etc. im looking forward to south carolina getting rid of their st's and getting connies!

They already wrecked that one. (or should I say...laid it down)
http://www.newson6.com/Global/story.asp?S=12520384
i know its old, but i didnt realize they wrecked...err, ahem...had to lay her down...
so, the officer is going 55 mph, has time to flash lights, activate siren, and do 'everything else', but couldnt use the brakes??!! that bike, those brakes, at only 55...im calling b.s. on that story!
besides, classic example of why horns and loud pipes are useless when it comes to 'happening right now' collision avoidance...use those brakes kids!
bike must not have been equipped with abs

Berlin* Polizei Norge 850.
I don't really have a point, I just wish I could get a Norge 850. The Polizei livery would be cool, too.
*Where the BMW motorcycle factory is, the cops ride Italian. Awesome.
Weird... didn't think that the German police used anything but BMWs (and MZs for a time).

I read on the internet that the reason given for the switch was because Guzzis were considered more intimidating.

Didn't the Papal City just get some Ducatis as their po-lice bikes?

I refuse to cave to the likely possibility that I may be wrong. Again.
Anyway, Starsky and Hutch was a much cooler shown than CHiPs...

I haven't heard that yet. It's interesting though. Either way I love the Norge in Polizei colors. I do believe though that they are changing from silver & green to silver & blue. I saw some new sedans in silver & blue start showing up at the stations.

I read Vespa imbalances occur well under the 45 MPH top speed if your boyfriend doesn't snuggle up real tight with you.
