Well folks, I was making a serious effort to get down there but I just ran into a major problem an hour ago.

Changing oil on the C10 tonight, stripped the goddamn drain plug hole. Drain bolt won't tighten down at all.

Nice little pieces of aluminum thread from the engine block coming out when I backed out the bolt.

F*ck me to almighty tears.

That's my trip right there with a turn of the wrench. Angry3 Angry3 Angry3

Anybody know what size Helicoil kit I'm going to need??

I just had my general mechanic buddy look at it and he said it might be better to tap it out, put a threaded brass sleeve/bushing up in there and locktite that in, and then a smaller bolt for the inside of the sleeve threads.

All this running around today and last night for naught.

Even bought a nice new Marmot sleeping bag the other day.  Sad
My other summer bag was a cheapie, too small, grabby zippers, and it generally was the suck.

So get it fixed in the morning and warp down the fast way in the afternoon. Gotta think a shop (bike, car, machine) would be able to hook you up.  Thumbsup

If I can get it fixed early enough I will, but my buddy is busy with work tomorrow, so it's unlikely.
Do you guys think the local bike shop will have a helicoil kit in stock?? I'm calling them first thing tomorrow AM.

They didn't even have a f*cking air cleaner in stock and they are a Kaw dealer.

Even if I can get it done by two or three PM at the latest it's 7 hours to Boyer I could still make it, but I'll be rolling in very late.

This sucks, hard, and not in the good way.

I did the same thing on my ZX 12, local Kawi shop had it fixed up in under an hour. I don't know if they heli coiled or tapped it, but whatever they did worked. Good luck getting it fixed.

Bitches! (Just trying to fit in).

Well, my "bitches" is actually the second post on the page - so I'm sure I violated some "bitches" rule, too.
Carry on.

garry,  I'm not SURE its open for dinner and you'd need to call ahead - but the Elk River Touring center had good food and beer last time I was there (about 17 years ago :>) and they still have the same owners, etc.

GAIL, Bandit and I are going there to mountain bike ride on the tandem Sunday and probably stay there that night.

Conpilot, Advance Auto Parts and others sell oversize drain plugs. They are basically a tap and drain plug combined. As you turn it in, new oversize threads are cut. First you must determine the diameter and thread pitch of your old drain plug.

Con, don't miss this event.  I'm mechanically challenged and I have been able to use a heli coil or a retap successfully in the past.

Tap it, heli it... get on down to WV!
